Last year my daughter bought me an Asus UX31E. I originally loved it. After using it for a while, it was placed in a secured place overnight in the protective sleeve. I tried to use it the next morning (also 3 days after the warranty expired) but the screen would not boot - lines all over. Asus told me that nothing could be done.
The estimated repair would be over $500.00 -- Why would a company tell a customer - go buy a new computer and here is a list of similar units. NOT good customer service.

If your ux31e was still under warranty and Asus refused to repair it for free, then I'd agree it is horrible service. You would get a similar response from any manufacturer.

While there are edge cases when consumers get lucky and receive free repairs after their warranty expired, it simply doesn't happen often and usually not without raising the issue through the support chain of command.

Perhaps you can try and reach an Asus community manager and raise your case with them. The warranty thread would be a good place to start.

    Good luck.
