    Hello all,

Recently I have been posting my issue regarding my troublesome camera on the owners thread of the ASUS UX32VD though I figured I’d broaden the spectrum a bit.

    Issue:

UX32VD Realtek camera at times is temporarily detected under the device manager, then disappears. A disconnecting/reconnecting sound is immediately before and after the detection of the camera. Though for the majority of the time the camera is not detected.

    What I’ve done:
Uninstalled/Installed any related drivers/software pertaining/relating to the UX32VD camera with no avail. I’ve updated to the latest bios as well (213) and still it hasn’t fixed the issue.

I’ve searched rigorously on the internet for a solution to this issue at hand, apparently I’m not the only individual suffering from it (other computers models mostly.) Others have suggested that a cable may be loose within the system itself but I will leave opening up the unit as last resort measure if I have to check it out.

I bought this UX32VD used (900 usd), it’s been upgraded up to 10 gigs of ram and a nice Samsung SSD drive. I didn’t check to see if the camera worked before clean installing windows on it. The previous owner told me it worked only on the life frame application, but it doesn’t hardly work for me at all. Could he have loosen the wire through applying he upgrades? I’m not sure, are the webcam cables accessible while upgrading the ram and SSD?

I do have an external webcam that is of much higher quality, but I rather only use that at home and I wouldn’t want to carry it around with me. So it’s a bit crucial for me to have this webcam work for me since I am moving to Japan by the end of the year for a few years if not permanently.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :(

Besides the camera everything else works perfectly, seems like you can't have everything... lol

Have you installed the driver from Realtek's site and/or Asus support + downloads page? Sometimes one will work, and one won't - even though it's more or less the same driver for the same product.

I've downloaded and installed the driver from Asus multiple times to no avail. As far as the realtek website, they don't have anything for the 5828t which is the actual model number of the camera (correct me if I am wrong.) So like I said before I hit a brick wall yet again.....

It does sound like the cable is torn somewhere. Have you tried taking off the backplate and making sure all the connections are properly seated? If that doesn't help, you can always disable it in the BIOS so that it doesn't bother you.

Look into a mirror site. If Realtek doesn't supply the driver :)confused :), then you can try an alternate download from any number of file hosting sites. You can also try using 3D chip to do the leg work for you.

But as prikolchik remarked - it's possibly not software related.

For whatever reason it's working now. Perhaps their was some sort of software conflict with another driver/program. Whatever caused it to function I'm hoping it stays this way, the video is garbage but I rather have a working pixelated camera than nothing at all.

    Thanks for the input!

Did you change or uninstall something aside from the camera driver?

It seems to be acting up again, sadly. In all honesty, I can't recall if I've uninstalled anything in the past few days since I've had a hectic week, though I'd say I've done nothing to the netbook software wise. Is their anyway to see what software may be causing a conflict (if it is one) that may be causing the camera to disconnect and reconnect constantly in the moment in which the connecting/disconnecting notification chime is heard, or is the task manager my best bet? : /
