Do you think that ASUS will have the 8800m available on any of their laptops?
-
-
Most likely.
-
Asus is a good brand and they stay on top of things. Im sure they will have the latest technology as soon as its available to them.
-
which models do you think will sport this upgrade?
I am looking at buying a 5791 in the future but i will definitley go w/ ASUS if it has the 8800m in on of tehir laptops... -
We can't be sure about the models, because more than likely they will come out with refreshes of the current lineup to include the new gpus and penryn cpus. So if any of this stuff is gonna get incorporated, it's gonna be in new models.
-
Something in the 17" range for sure. Nothing below that.
-
hmmm, do u think they will come out before summer 2008
-
OK if Asus stays on top of things wheres an Asus 8700M?
-
Think I may have heard a while back that Asus will be releasing a 17" in 2008 with " a high end video card ". G3/G4 or something, I don't really remember. It was several months ago when this game up.
-
to date, Asus has yet to make high-end gaming notebooks... only mid-range ones at best... with style.
This includes all their notebooks, even the 17" notebooks are just mid-range in gaming power. -
-
it will *knock on wood* be available to upgrade in mine

8800M is rumored to require 35w, currently the C90S only supports 22w, though with the DDR3 cards requiring 120w brick as thrown that into doubt with me. Also, don't flame me for this, but I don't think the C90S was as big a hit as Asus wanted (seeing how we're BETA testing it) and all other C90 models have disappeared. This casts an ominous shadow over future upgrades, the 8600M DDR3 was a sad, sad excuse for an upgrade, all the the DDR2 version need was some better driver.
-
they have only build midrange ones. I never seen one with 7900 or 6800 before.
Let those highend gaming laptops belongs to Sager and Clevo engineer. -

Huh...so unless the Nvidia 9 series midrange cards support 22w then I'm going to be really upset that I got a C90s so early...
I know it's a little unreasonable to expect a 1500$ upgradeable notebook to be able to support the biggest and baddest cards available but at least give it ood mid-range cards to use. All the sudden ATI might become my savior. -
dont hate guys... stay positive... ASUS WILL SUPPORT THE C90S with more future upgrades
god i hope so... -
I didn't say I was upset at my C90, I come from playing BF2 and 2142, that lack of community support.
-
haha wow ya me as well... patches every other week not even fixing problems just releasing more!
the c90s have to be hard for them to support because they are so vast in what you can do to them -
They aren't going to put that level of GPU in anything smaller, just like you won't find an 8700 in anything smaller than 17". -
It is strange that asus doesnt sell a 256 bit gpu notebook, when they are one of the worlds largest manufacturers of the desktop top end cards.
I think it actually has more to do with the internal cost structure
Asus is the gpu manufacturer of the mid range nvidia notebook cards so it stands to reason that almost all of their machines can take a mid range nvidia card because they must be able to sell them to themselves at a big discount. -
haha ummm you do know what the 8700 is correct?
its just an o/c 'd 8600gt... nothing more nothing less
theres no reason not to put a high powered card in a 15.4in notebook... give me one good reason not to -
-
Well, since ASUS did not have any notebooks w/ 7900 in the past, they are probably not going to have any w/ 8800 either right?
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
They might. I don't know why they don't make high end laptops with the high end gpus. I mean its all speculation. No one has a definite answer as to why they don't.

I actually believe we are more likely to get a G92 refresh of the 8700M then to get a G92 8800M, if any and here is why I believe this; the current 8700M uses somewhere in the 32-35W and the C90s only supports 22W (thrown somewhat into the air by the DDR3/120W brick hiccup), the rumored G92 8800M is also 32-35W, if the G92 lowered the power consumption of the 8800 (down clocked a for the 8800M) than just think about how much the power consumption of the 8700M would be lowered by a G92 refresh. The if any part is from my earlier post, basically if Asus is going to keep supporting the C90s, because of it vast and over reaching variety.
There are alot of things that are possible for the C90s, but the fact is that it is a barebone, thus a niche machine and delayed by almost 4 months, thus leading to less then stellar sales and alot of problems due to the fact that it was released before it was ready. In all honesty, I would own a V1s right now if the C90s had been delayed any longer and I am very, very happy with it. I am a tinker by nature and the C90s is a tinkers wet dream. -
With that being said, what if any of the ASUS Gaming models are upgradable with GPU options? Is it possable to outfit a 8800M from a new current Gateway or other and use it in any ASUS by changing heatsink?
What ASUS Gaming units are offering Penryn capable Refreshed chipset, "Santa Rosa" to upgrade to T9300 or better? Will or do any ASUS PM965's utilize DDR800 to speed? -
I don't think any are upgradeable except the C90... If the heatsink doesn't fit, with what are you going to exchange it? Each notebook layout is different, and probably the heatsink would need to be custom-made -- who will do that? That is, assuming that the GPU isn't soldered on the mainboard.
ASUS 8800m?
