My burner has stopped working 1 month from the 1 year warranty.
ASUS is dragging their feet about replacing the burner. So I'm assuming they are going to give me the business until my warranty is out.
What I'd like is to find a replacement burner and replace it myself. Or even have a local computer tech replace it but finding anyone who does this is not easy.
Does anyone know where I can purchase the burner I need?
Thank you so much.

If you're comfortable replacing it yourself you just need to get a 12.7mm optical drive and make sure its a SATA connection which pretty much all new ones will be. They are pretty much universal. All you'll need to do is take out the old, put in the new, and then move the original bezel over to the new one.

Don't let them dawdle! If they're giving you the runaround via email, call in. Their automated system is easy to navigate (2 for support at the first prompt, then 1 for notebooks). A live rep should be able to create a RMA for you within 5 - 10 minutes.
Laptop optical drives are not in as common of circulation standalone as desktop ones, but you can still find them all over: Google Shopping results -

Tell them about the issue you are having, and request to send only the optical drive in for replacement instead of your whole computer.
This way you won't have any downtime.
