The A6 is quite a decent system...

    Hey, nice review there Emperor!

I was considering the A6J myself, since they've come down in price quite dramatically in the last month or two, but I'm now leaning more towards the A8Jm (or maybe V6J)...

I'm a little disappointed with the TN display, although compromise is the name of the game with lower end models.

I have doubts about the quality of the A6Ja. My unit had boot-up problems last nite. When I power-on the unit, the led was 'pulsing' almost every second and the dvd drive's light was doing the same thing. I brought the unit back to the Asus service center this afternoon. They determined it was a motherboard problem. Luckily, they have an A6Ja MB in stock so I didnt wait long for it.

I owned the A6 only for 2 months and I cant believe that the MB failed in just a short span of time. The technician couldnt tell the exact reason for the failure, its just that when my memory & CPU were inserted in the new MB, they worked fine. Now im having serious doubts about the quality of Asus. Good thing they have a 2 year warranty, but I wouldnt want to go back every 2 months to have something replaced/repaired. Hopefully, this would be the last time it will be brought back for repair.

Every brand has component failures. Its like 3-5 percent of all electronics have problems. Just because you had one issue doesnt mean all will have issues. your problem will be fixed. remember asus makes sonys apples dells, and many other brands so asus really is everywhere. Not to mention they make over 50 percent of all pc motherboards out there. so i think asus has a great reputation.

Yeah, you can talk about Asus's reputation, but has the MotherBoard of your Asus failed on you? I had a lot of positve expectations for my A6. The A6 is the 1st Asus product that I own. My disappointment stems from the fact that Asus is a leading motherboard manufacturer, yet the component w/c failed on my A6 is the MOTHERBOARD itself. I wouldnt be as upset had it been another component w/c screwed-up. I mean, being known as the marquee MB manufacturer, Asus should have ensured that 3%-5% component failure isnt acceptable to consumers like me, who spent quite an amount believing Asus is a competent brand.

I owned a mid-level Toshiba notebook w/c never failed during the 5 years that I had it. Im now thinking of selling my A6 before the 2-year warranty is over and get a Toshiba. I think its still premature to think of my A6 as a lemon, hopefully it will prove me wrong in the long run.

ASUS is usually rock solid. Toshiba on the other hand... There are problems... Your new motherboard will probably be solid. The old one probably was a fluke.

You have my sympathies for your motherboard problems, Nitrox.

For all the observations that only x percent of an item fails, that's little consolation when your item is in that minority... :(

Still, let me reassure you that your problem is very much the exception with Asus, not the rule. I hope that your replacement A6J provides you with many trouble free years of service.

Yeah. I hope from here on I wont experience any problems with my A6J. Its a wonderful machine, inside & out. My friend & I bought our A6J at the same time & his unit is working flawlessly. Mine could have had a fluke in the motherboard and Im keeping my fingers crossed that its a one-off problem.

i have A6JA since June 4, 2006 .. i ran the Prime95 and SiSoft Sandra CPU benchmark for 12hrs, CPU temp is around 65 to 75C degrees .. so far my notebook is still ok...

i'm planning to run a benchmark/burnin program for 24hrs on this notebook to torture test everything at the same time hehe...
