Ok, so this could be a tricky one for some of you experts to solve...

I've had a A6NE for years now and it hasn't given me any trouble until today.

My wife was using it earlier, and said how the touchpad was acting strange, then something popped up and said that either the keyboard or touchpad (or related software) had been disabled.

So now, neither the touchpad or keyboard works, but I can use a USB mouse. I tried to reinstall windows with the original system restore CD's that came with the notebook, but couldn't finish it because I could not type a username during the windows setup process.

The funny thing is that the keyboard works on the simple DOS-like menu when I load and run the restore cd, however if windows tries to load the notebook hangs with a black screen, and the 3 green LED lights stay on (not sure exactly what problem this is suggesting).

I suspect there's a software problem, but can't get into bios. Have disconnected and reconnected the keyboard and touchpad but this doesn't achieve anything.

Any suggestions or ideas of what the problem could be would be appreciated. Thanks.
