when i just bought my asus A8J, there is a fine white line across my screen. Therefore i went to the service center to get it changed. However, there is another hidden problem on my laptop, my Ricoh memory card reader can't read SD/MMC card despite the technician engineer in asus service center help me changed 3 to 4 motherboards. i have also reinstall the driver multiple times.
(i would love to believe that they are new motherboards but not those that are retrieved from rejected units elsewhere)
The technician was saying that there have been previous cases like mine but were always resolved after changing the motherboard. my laptop is a special case...i would like to know what else can be done before i reinstall my Windows.
I was thinking ASUS might as well change a new laptop for me since my laptop is not a trusted unit anymore as such problem can't b resolved. Anyone can help me and tell me how and where can i talk to ASUS customer service regarding this issue? :(

Don't want to point out the obvious, but it's often what gets overlooked... have you tried to reinstall the card reader drivers?

He said he has reinstalled the driver multiple times.

What did the technician say you should do?

I really think reinstalling windows is a less-impact solution than getting a notebook replacement from ASUS. So perhaps you should do that. I'm unsure if the A8j is an ensemble, if so use the recovery option and try reading the card *as soon as* the install completes. If it's read, then it's a software issue, concerning software/programs that you've installed afterwards.

If it's a barebones, reinstall windows and the MB & card reader drivers, and try reading the SD card, with the same diagnostic as above.

If it still doesn't read it, and you've exchanged several MBs, then indeed I'd say you can try to exchange the NB. Contact the ASUS service point where you serviced your notebook, the guys there should be able to tell you what your options are.

Ah btw, try a Linux distribution as well? I'm not sure but they might support the card reader. E.g. Knoppix or SLAX. If they do support and read the card, then it's a software issue. You don't even need to install Windows to find it out.

Sam, what version of the Drivers are you using?

I had a similar problem w/ my W3j. I noticed (for my W3j) that Asus only had a particular version of the driver available, but googling 'Ricoh Driver' returned a few newer versions (some even on Asus' own site, for other models). With nothing to lose, I installed a newer driver and am now up and running. If that doesn't work, try removing your optical drive and re-booting, and then let us know if the card reader works.
