    Hi, first time posting.

I did find ASUS A8JP Newegg thread, but decided to start a new thread for a question regarding Vista upgrade.

Can you guys either confirm or refute my findings?

I've chatted online with Newegg support and the short answer was that there is no free upgrade to vista for ASUS A8JP. I would have to purchase Vista.

Then I talked to ASUS pre-sales support (USA) and their answer was that since this is exclusive from Newegg, it's up to Newegg to provide the upgrade. If Newegg site or customer service says it is not eligible for free Vista upgrade, then I must purchase Vista.

I know there was another thread where a member tried to order a copy, but no definitive outcome.

So did any of you guys have difference experience or get other answers from either Newegg or ASUS USA?

    Thank you in advance.

    Alex

I will offer only one piece of information, and defer the final answer to someone who already has an A8Jp in their possession:

The A8Jp is a choice on the 'models' section of the Asus Vista Upgrade site at https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vista/Asustek/.

It would seem stupid for it not to be included. I don't see why it would be up to Newegg to provide it any more then it is up to any other vendor selling Ensembles.

Don't quote me on this, but I don't think where you bought the computer should matter. As long as it came with an original copy of Windows XP with serial number (true), you bought during the currect period (true), it's a valid model (true), and you have the model serial number (true), it should work. Unless, ASUS or Microsoft is voiding certain serial numbers, but that seems unlikely. You should just try the website Jumper linked.

He hasn't purchased yet and he wants to confirm before doing so. +1 for being a Good Consumer :)

The upgrades are being handled by Microsoft/Asus HQ. I have a feeling Asus USA and Newegg are totally out of the loop on this one.

Just like Newegg has the A8Jp down as 1 year warranty when the warranty sticker on the bottom clearly says "24 M", all new Ensembles are coming with 2 years, and it does come with a 2 year warranty as confirmed by someone who has one.

You guys, thanks for quick replies. Yes, I have not purchased A8JP yet, but wanted to find out beforehand. Hopefully, you guys are right and if I do buy, I'll be able to get free upgrade.

Meanwhile, if any of you current owners of A8JP have any input, please let me know. Thanks. :)

if you buy a computer with windows mce before jan 15th

you get a free copy of vista home premium if you pay shipping.

    no ifs ands or buts.

a8jp is a computer. it comes with windows mce. If you buy it, and you send the number to the upgrade thing with 8$ you get free windows vista home premium.

It has nothing to do with asus, it is microsoft.

So dont consult that person at newegg they are full of it. Its difficult to believe they are mistaken considering their profession, they are trying to sell you something.

btw a8jp has been out of stock for about 5 days and I havent heard anyone say if its coming back. I would ask that first before I thought about it any more.

I put in an order for it last night but... I don't know if I'll even get it. It was in stock a few random times despite being out of stock for long periods of hours or days.

    Thanks for more replies.
So the consesus is that I should be fine with A8JP purchase. But yeah, it's been in and out of stock and it's been out of stock for about 2 days.

Since you guys been already helping me with this issue, would you guy also help me and recommend a laptop? :D

Since I'm in cali, A8JP from Newegg would be about $1420 (US). I see that A8JS with bluetooth from Milestone is about $1550 (+ SH?). Which one do you guys suggest?

You basicaly can't go wrong with either choice A8js vs A8jp. If you want to buy now and the A8jp is out of stock at Newegg, then it is your choice to wait for a new shipment.

Or you can go right ahead and purchase the slightly more powerfull A8js, since the Go 7700 is the best 14" and 15.4" GPU on the market, plus the A8js can be easily upgraded to 2GB of RAM by adding 1 more stick of ram.

So the cost in itself of upgrading the A8jp when you upgrade to 2 GB would be roughly the same. So overall you will end you with a better GPU the Go 7700.
