Hi, I am a new user to this discussion. Just wondering if anyone out there can help me to resolve the following problem:

As shown on the attached pictures, my asus A8JP is facing the "cracked" screen problem. Normally, it will run smoothly whenever I turn on the laptop for the first time. If you intend to restart it after long hours usage, the screen will go crazy, just like a cracked screen.

But this problem can be resolved by letting the laptop go for hibernating mode then wake him up again. The screen will back to normal again. However, if you intend to restart it again, the same problem will occur. I don't intend to go directly to Asus (although it is still under warranty) as I am afraid they will take a long time to fix it.

During the first boot, everything works just fine. Can anyone help me on this?

Also, I intend to upgrade my Asus A8JP from 1GB to 2GB or more, just wondering if this model can support up to 4GB?

    Thanks for all the helps...

Unless this is a driver issue, which can easily be determined (see below), you cannot solve it yourself. Well, you can, if you want to pay for the parts and replace them yourself -- assuming you have the possibility to determine what parts you need.

How to determine if it's driveR:
    1. If left sitting in BIOS, will the computer do the same thing?
    2. If run under a live Linux distro, such as Knoppix, does it do the same thing?

And of course, try updating driver.

Looks to me like your graphics card is overheating. The reason why I think so is because when you hibernate you turn off the machine, therefore turning off the video card as well allowing it to cool down and boot up normal again. Does the screen always look like that? Blue with white lines?

How long have you had this laptop? if it's under the warranty period, I suggest you to visit your local ASUS authorized service center. Definately a video card issue.

    Thanks for the help.

I actually bought my laptop a few months back, should be around march. But the problem only happened recently. I had been using it for like 9 months without any problem. Guess it will be better off for me to go directly to the Asus center then.

Thanks for all the advices and help anyway.
