Main issue's of why I can't decide between ASUS A8Js and G1:
-Mobility, I need to be able to move the Notebook easily
-Light leakage issues I've heard of on A8Js (poor lcd performance)
-The higher resolution on the G1 will reduce gaming performance
-Which notebook would perform the best in gaming assuming both have 2Gb RAM and are otherwise identical besides screen size and resolution?

They will perform exactly the same
I move my a8js all the time and i dont know how id move the g1 around.
I dont know if anyone can tell you what difference the size will make to you.
One one end of the scale is size, on the other end you have a higher resolution and nicer lcd.
The a8js lcd is great though very bright. -
I don't have any trouble moving my G1 around. It does come with a nice backpack just for such an occasion. Of course, I also have never had any other notebooks, so maybe the a8js is that much more easy to move around.

1.) The G1 is a 15.4 inch notebook while the a8js is a 14.1". A 14.1" will be a little more portable and easier to carry. I personally will not carry anything larger than a 14" if I can help it--my next laptop will probably be a 12.1" X60 or the next generation. Size is everything. I've owned both a 15.4 widescreen and 14.1" 4:3 aspect notebooks.
2.) Most games give an option to scale resolution. You can drive a game at a non-native resolution without any ill-effects.
Make sure you check out the various reviews on this & other sites. -
Ive owned a 12r inch a 17w inch a 15r inch and Ive decided the best size is the one i havent had the 13.3w inch.
If size is the only concern. So this machine is a compromise, its larger than optimal ( truly, I think a 15 inch r lcd could fit on this chassis almost) but it has the gpu of a full size 15.4 inch. -
canadacomputers.com has the G1 for $1999, decent deal.

You do have a few options, especially if you are in Ontario.
I used the G1 while doing the G2P review, so there should be both of those demo units, plus I believe there is an A8js demo unit aswell.
If you would like Call us, prior to visiting and we can check for you, so that you don't drive to us and be dissapointed that they are not there.
Another question is where exactly will you be moving the notebook? I know many G1 owners are now using it for business/work, and so far it seems ok despite the gaming asthetics.
Gaming wise, scaling for gaming now a days is basically out dated, you don't have to worry about that. No 15.4" or 14" gaming laptop can game at high resolutions since the GPU is too weak, so people are having to turn down the resolution anyways, and there's no problems at all.
Here's a reivew on the G2P, and go to the gaming section you can see the pictures, and also notice the resolution are all lower than the native resolution.

For graphic design work, you will definitely appreciate the G1's screen and size, when compared to the A8js. But you will also appreciate the size and portability of the A8js over the G1.
So if possible come by, check em out for yourself.
Also when considering battery life, I know many have claimed the A8js to get roughly 2 hours 30 minutes, so if you do chose that, then I would suggest purchasing a 2nd Main Battery so that would give you a total of 5 hours if you want. Same goes for the G1, but I have heard many mixed number for battery life.
