Does ASUS AI recovery still work after a DBAN? Of course these days many computer manufacturers no longer include a legit copy of windows, and instead force users to burn the OS to half a dozen blank DVDs LOL!

    I have an ASUS U32U-ES21.

Remember after a DBAN the computer only boots straight to BIOS I believe.

Dban doesn't just format a drive, it wipes it. So if you wipe the recovery partition, then no. You will need those recovery discs created before you wipe or format.

okay I am confused. after I deban, can i still use the disks burned in the AI BEFORE the dban, or will they not work because the disk is wiped?! that is my question. obviously ill burn the recovery disks before the wipe LOL. but i need to know if my laptop will be able to read them or if ill need a fresh copy of windows.

On some OEMs, the disc(s) will partition the hard drive and then allow you to boot to the recovery process even if you've deleted the partitions and formatted/wiped. With Asus and the UX model(s), I'm not sure. I thought their ultrabooks require you to make a recovery drive, rather than a recovery disc.

WHAT is the difference? AI recovery doesn't give me an option to burn to a drive.

The difference between the "drive" and the "disc" was that a recovery drive required a 16GB flash drive instead of discs. Instead of putting the recovery software on DVDs (recovery discs), it needed to be copied onto a recovery drive (USB flash drive). It was used on their laptops that were supplied strictly with Windows 8.

With yours, however, if it came with Windows 7 from factory, then you'll be resorting to discs. :)

I believe you can use the recovery discs without the partition on that model, but just so you can rest assured, you may want someone to validate or decry that (you can always call Asus to confirm it if nobody on the forums gets back to you.)
