Alright, I love my F3Jv. However, I have only one minor complaint, because it is a huge inconvenience.

Whenever the unit boots up, it shows the ASUS logo and plays a little sound or "chime." Is there any way possible (without disabling the sound device completely), to get this sound to not play?

Since I will be using this laptop during the remainder of my years in college, it will be rather annoying if every time I turn on my laptop inside of a classroom or at work, it plays a chime announcing "hey everybody, I have a laptop, and I've just turned it on!"

I've googled quite a bit but haven't sat down to research methods in-depth, so if anyone has any suggestions (other than disabling the sound device completely), please post them here!

Is there no option in the BIOS to disable it?

    Yes its in bios.

It is labeled something misleading like merely, sound volume or something.

Search around in the BIOS.There should be an option named "Play POST sound", and there is a volume ranging from 1-8.

YUp, that's right, you can turn it off by restarting the notebook, just before the Asus symbol appears, press F2, which takes you into the BIOS.

Then go to the Advanced tab, and right there you will see, "Play POST Sound", it will be currently YES, so turn it off, NO.

That will get rid of the sound. then save and exit. :D

No. It just gets rid of the lousy chime.

There is an option for doing quick post (doesn't run all power-on tests), but usually enabled by default.

Thanks for the helpful responses everyone.

I'm relieved to find out that I will be able to disable that one sound without disabling the notebook's integrated audio altogether. I appreciate the advice!

If a notebook would play such a sound at boot and there weren't an option to disable it, I would take a hammer and smash the notebook to pieces. Then request a refund. :)

Seriously speaking, do like the other guys said, you'll be able to disable it nicely without even worrying about the volume setting (Play POST Sound / disabled).

    I already have. :)

And, to be honest... I probably would've grabbed a hammer if it weren't for these forums. :p
