Hey everyone! I know that swapping cards between laptops seldom works. Dell models are swappable though between the 9400 and M1710.

I'm wondering theirs a bunch of 8000 series cards coming out. My A8Js is a great fast laptop but what would really help future proof it would be an ability to swap the 7700 out for a newer 8600GT card. Ive seen the C90's interface and while i doubt it will work it looks to be the same interface as the A8Js the MXM standard.

it seems like it would fit, i have an oppurtunity to grab a C90's videocard for cheap from a busted up system. I think i might try it.

yeah well which version of MXM? there's several of them, higher versions provide more power for faster cards.

The A8jm is not MXM. The only ASUS notebooks that are confirmed to be MXM are the C90s and Z84s.

Jep. Just like the V1S, the A8 is some kind of reverse MXM. You could try the V1S card in your A8Js but it is not sure that it would work.

damn, i would love ASUS forever if they released some new version of the A8 series with an 8000 series card, hopefully an 8600GT.

Or even just released the card and charged maybe $300 for it, i would buy it but i highly doubt they'll do that

Same type of slot but the size is little bit different, I tried it already, won't fit.
Also C90S's GPU face up and V1S's GPU face down.
The heatsink for C90S is on the top of the card and V1S is on the bottom of the card, so if you put the C90S's GPU on V1S the GPU will have no heatsink to cover it.
