Perhaps this is noobish, but I was wondering...
I recently installed a Kingston 3GB DDR2 memory set, listed at 667MHz, PC2-5300 (1x2GB, 1x1GB, same series, same specs). However, when I booted the system after installation, all I could get it to report was "PC-4300 Dual-Channel Asymmetric".
Performance is still vastly increased over my old Corsair ValueRAM 2x1GB setup, but I'm wondering if there's a reason it's not reporting a higher speed.
Thanks in advance for any feedback. On a completely unrelated note, has anyone found a seller that actually has the GDDR3 GFX cards in stock?

PC-4300 is 533mhz.
-
Er... yes, it is. I'm getting a report of 4300, when I installed 5300. Any ideas?

maybe you bought PC-4300 and the stickers were exchanged, but don't take what i said as granted

C90s automatically defaults 667 ram to 533 due to the fsb of the processor being 1066 so 533*2 (dual density) = 1066. The ram will be fully activated during overclock mode when the fsb is increased even though the ram is still technically not at full 667*2 speed.
At least that's what I think the explanation is but the fact iss till that all ram above 533 has to be clocked down to 533. I think I gave the right explanation but I know someone out there can help explain it better. -
That makes sense, actually. Thanks.

Sorry if my earlier post ddin't make sense, what I was trying to say was that since the c90 clocks everything down to 533mhz, thats what its reported as. (Its hard to type long sentences on an ipod.)

YUp because it can't reach 333 FSB, it downlocks everything to 533
-
No problem. Thanks everybody.

With a bit of haxoring I got my e6600 to boot 333 default, however, thats about as far as it got since I didn't want to make it permanent

Interesting. With as hot as it runs already, I'm betting it added more than a bit of heat load to the actual modules, right?
