I'm just wondering what people have to say about the ASUS C90P or any other model (whitebox preferably) and whether or not the novelty of building your own laptop to suit your needs is still worthwhile with the limited amount of "upgrades" available.

The price tag is still pretty hefty compared to other pre-built systems with comparable specs but there is just something about the C90 that i have always liked. The idea of building my own laptop still gives me wet dreams and i think that if cost wasn't an issue i would snag a C90 is a second.

So basically i'm looking for input from others who have C90's to see how they feel about them now. Would you still buy one given the choice/opportunity to get something equally as powerful/shiny?

    Thanks.

Love my C90. So much fun to mod and mess around. Nothing till the last couple of months has really outguned it in the 15.4 inch range. Most C90 owners have upgrade plans and mods planned no doubt so I think the laptop will life on for a while yet. I know I have such plans :p. Read the C90 modders thread for an interesting take on what people have done to their C90!

    Thanks for the quick link.

I have read all of the mod forums and they make me drool. One of the reasons i wanted a C90 was so i could tear it apart and rebuild it as much as i want. I go through computer cases at an alarming rate.

My basic problem is the seeming lack of information on the C90P. Lots of info and benchmarks, and mods for the C90s but very little on the C90s. If/When i get mine i will be sure to post as much and as often as i can but i'm just curious if im overlooking all the C90P posty-goodness, or if it just doesn't exist yet.

edit: and i also noticed that A LOT of the posts stopped in the summer, very few threads are still active in 2008 and even fewer now.

The C90P is practically identical except that it uses a P35 chipset I believe allowing up to 4GB of 800 mhz ram and the new penryn core 2 duo's and quad's. Also the heatsinks are all copper instead of aluminium. Otherwise I don't think anything has changed, still waiting on an update of graphics card, maybe march who knows. Alot of C90 owners have sold their laptops in favour of the G50-V, or similiar as they believe the C90 is dead end GPU wise. I personally am still hopeful! Patience is a virtue :p

Does the G50-V offer better potential for upgrading or is it simply superior with it's current components?

edit: Nevermind did some research and answered my own questions.
