Okay so I just got my G51jx back from the RMA centre in Markham, ON, Canada.

Here's a quick write up of my experience.

    Problems:
My LCD had 4 bleached white dots only visible on a white background on it that were getting progressively worse (more were showing up since the purchase).

The headphone jack got stuck (speakers didnt work) cause they were detected as always plugged in.

    RMA:
Dropped off at the depot Monday morning (Apr. 18th). Told the guy at the desk about the screen problem and showed him the spots. He marked the areas with stickers. Also informed him about the audio jack.

Called Tuesday afternoon to check status (Apr. 19th). It was already in the final testing phase he said. It should be done by the next morning.

Called Today morning (Apr. 20th). They said it was ready for pick up and everything was clear. Went there and picked up.

    Results:
They gave me a report on what was replaced. They replaced the LCD and audio board, checked it out on the spot. No more white dots and speakers were working again. Perfect :). Walked out a happy customer.

I went in there expecting the worst, hearing about all the horror stories about screwups. I was expecting a screen replacement but them giving me the wrong resolution screen. They didn't. It was a brand new 1080p LCD screen (AUO made). No more annoying white dots = yay.

So a pretty good experience for my first RMA. The Canada facility is on top of things it seems.
A 2 night turnaround time is very good IMO. I also hear they do same day service for stuff like hard drives or keyboard problems.

Asus Canada repair facility has been known to be top-notch for a while. Glad to hear their quality of service hasn't declined.

Agreed. Was part of the G1S fiasco and although the call center isn´t really of any help, if you manage to actually get in contact with the repair center then it´s pretty fast and efficient. The guy there even let me take the HD out to back it up while they were trying to fix the gfx card and took my extra RAM that I installed and put it in bubble wrap for me.

Same here, RMA experience in Canada was flawless. The only problem i ever ran in was getting the RMA number when i called.Once i had the RMA# everything was flawless, shipping paid and took 5 days to send it from Montreal, get it fixed and receive it. Oh right, there was one thing: they inverted the connection for the antennas on the WLAN card (didn't even know it had an effect or one antenna wasn't properly plugged in and switching fixed that) and it wasn't picking up wireless networks very well. Took a while to figure out the problem but i found the solution here.

Never mind. I take this back. A mere 9 days after repair to my LCD, the brand new one now has a vertical line of blue pixels smack in the middle of the screen. I get one problem fixed and a worse one arises.
Now it all depends on how they deal with this and they better do a better installation job or give me a different make of screen.

I think it could just be bad luck on my part and i got a lemon LCD screen who knows. The line went in color from green to blue to purple, i dont know what colour it will be next. Anyway its damn distracting and I cant even play games because its right in the middle of the screen.
I'm just annoyed because I'll have to wait another 2 days due to the poor make of this screen.

Yeah, I'm just annoyed that I have to RMA again so soon

Do you think if I ask they could give me an LG or Hannstar screen instead of the generic AUO..?

Most likely not. But it never hurts to ask.

See if you can receive some sort of compensation. Clearly this was an issue on their end and it now more of your effort and time is needed. Correct me if I'm wrong but I read way back when that if they repair it a certain amount of times without success you get a new laptop.

I will definitely look into that if another issue arises after this second LCD RMA.
It's just annoying as hell having to go without my notebook for another few days so soon...(I'm gonna get flamed by those who've had theirs stuck in depots for like months lol)
Maybe if I complain enough on monday they can look into my issue on the same day

Hmm, does this apply in Canada? I'm more interested in finding out about this. I'm going tomorrow morning to get my laptop back.

Doesn't hurt to ask. I'm Canadian too but I've never had 3 botched repairs in a row.

Well if it acts up a third time I'll definitely ask. Lets see how long this lasts.
Now that its summer its going to be sitting on my desk 99% of the time since I don't have to take it to class anyway.

I always associate these problems with something happening during transport.
