Not for me right now. Perhaps sometime next year. Although it looks incredible. Can't buy every notebook that comes out immediately.

I think most people will wish they had this instead of their own machines right now :)

Truly though - the reason I really want it is that it is an Asus with a nice dock! The rest is icing on the cake, but I would kill for a real dock for my V6j.

This is way too expensive than I would want to spend.

I'd rather spend this money on two laptops.

Hmmm..... ati x1700? is this an x1600 with a lower nanometer architecture and higher clock speed? weren't ati going to 65nm or something? Isnt that why amd bought them?

I'm stil glad i have my w3j. It is smaller, the finger print scanner is a lame gimmick and web cameras are useless.
I can always upgrade to the merom if i feel slow.
Still, seems a nice notebook. I bet the merom mac book pro will have that x1700 in it. But 256mb hypermemory? i dont know what that means.

Nice to see it uses a multibay as well.

Well, it does certainly fit as a high-end multimedia notebook. Too bad it doesn't have a TV tuner....

I've brought this up before. Apple actually uses a mini-DVI while ASUS uses a micro-DVI so they are incompatible. I'm pretty sure ASUS includes their adapter though especially since this is a high-end model.

On the X1700 issue, I have heard of no new mobile cores in the near future. Personally, I'd love to see a 80nm version of the MR56 X1600 since it'd bring lower power and higher clock speeds. However, the 80nm process isn't "delayed" according to TSMC, but it isn't going as smoothly as planned either. The first 80nm chip will be the RV570, but the desktop RV535 X1600 die shrinks aren't due until October. That means any MR X1600 die shrinks won't be coming for a while if there is such things.

I'm willing to bet that the AMD-ATI acquisition will force Intel to "encourage" manufacturers to use nVidia GPUs instead just as Apple seems to be doing with the new Mac Pro. From observation, nVidia's 7600 Go is making inroads recently after being behind the MR X1600 in launch time leading me to believe that nVidia is probably offering very competitive pricing right now. The 7600 Go also has the marketing advantage of having 512MB dedicated RAM.

That's over 2100 US >_> Not to mention that's not out in the US so it'd have to be imported...or at least for now. I'd totally get it if it was around 1700 :-\ but 2100 ...ugh...

you can upgrade a v6j to have the same specs. i mean i might wait a little to see what happens but hopefully will just make v6j cheaper and hen justify the cost of upgrading one.

what does the docking station do for you? thats for using at a desktop if your always using it on sofa, bed and on the go then you wont really need it.

what else does it have over the v6j that you cant upgrade on v6j.

so you could import one now from europe?

    how soon till us release?

I'm not quite sure what that post of yours means lol, its so confusing.

The docking is pretty useful, it doesn't clutter your notebook with random ports everywhere and makes it look like its being tested on(USB for mice, printer, HD enclosure, scanner, etc.), so everything is there when you need it, just put the notebook down and voila, a full desktop setup. And with DVI, you can get a 21" WS LCD for maximum Whoooaa. Thats why docking stations are so useful, its a pity they aren't avaliable for alot of units.

Docking Stations are gods gift to laptops. That was the worst part about getting my V6j, I didn't have that anymore. I used to just put my computer on my desk and it was connected to everything, charging, and it all just worked. Now I have 2 USB connections, my monitor, my audio, and my AC adapter. I would love the V6j if it had a dock. Also, the V1j has a multibay, but look at how its built, the V6 and V1 are really different, I think it is difficult to compare the two.

Well you could get the v1j from the UK .. this place
    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Asus_V1J_15.4_inch_Laptop_V1J-AK007P/version.asp

has it for a good price compared to few other uk dealers i saw but its in pounds and most prob dont ship to the u.s. ou might be able to find one that will... for a price.

the uk version isn't core 2 duo though, in fact that one says
Intel Centrino Core DuoT2400 Processor 1.83 GHz

Also i have a desktop at home so wont need to use it as that or have need for docking station. i would get a 17' desktop replacement as a second home pc for that with docking station.

think I am just going to order a V6j with a Dual Core 2 1.83ghz upgrade (not springing the extra $200 for the 2.16ghz)

with upgraded hd to 120gb and one 1gb stick of ram so i can add another later.

should be good. i'm not going to look back or have buyers remorse. Been see what else there was for days and keep coming back to the v6j and with those upgrades it will be future proofed for our needs for some time.

i didnt' get the v6j customized, but curious as to why and what you said doent' make much sense?

buying a v6j customized with a merom cpu?

why doesn't that make much sense? because it costs more?

see when you make smart alex comments like that you should at least give a reason.

anyway i found v6j stock for amazing price so probably just going to get that and get a t7200 at a later time to install myself with some help.

Because there are no c2d asus laptops due to come out that i am interested in. didn't see/hear anyting about a v6j c2d update but then saw one merchant mention it might be for nov/dec. but i dont think so cus nothing else about that.

dont want to wait anyway and for the price i'm getting v6j i can prob get the c2d cpu later for same total price as it will be if ever released with one.

main thing holding me back right now is just seeing what kind of deal i might be able to get on importing a v1j. conversion rate is probably going to make that not worthwhile though.

anyone know good online merchant to get v1j from that ships to the US?

supposedly a few countries have version that comes with c2d stock.
