I just received an e-mail from Asus announcing their a new Eee PC model, 1005PR. The Eee PC 1005PR boasts a 10.1" HD LED screen (1366X768) that is accompanied by Broadcom's CrystalHD technology which is supposedly going to make much smoother HD video playbacks. Pre-orders are now available; MSRP set at $399.99

I am excited about this, I guess no one else is given the dearth of responses?

So the GPU/IGP is the Broadcom thing? Or is there a separate graphics chip and the Broadcom HD is shoehorned into a PCI slot?

AFAIK, Broadcom's CrystalHD chip can either be imbedded in the motherboard or be a mini PCI-e module. Whether which format is used is entirely up to the laptop manufacture.

I have a 1001P which is pretty much the same thing. they've actually had a model like this out for some time. they have the 1001P without the Broadcom chip (which I plan on buying separately at a later date) and another that comes with the chip for a rather large price upgrade.

When did Asus put a Broadcom CrystalHD chip in the 1001P?
AFAIK, the biggest difference between the 1001P and 1005PR is the 720p screen resolution and the CrystalHD chip.

it wasn't in a 1001P, it was in a similar more expensive model, at least I'm fairly sure I saw it on newegg when I bought mine. looked almost exactly alike. only difference being the CrystalHD chip. that chip can be bought for 50$ tho which is what I plan on doing.

I like how the keyboard is full width. Might actually be a usable keyboard for a 10.1".

I'd hold off until a much later date. The Crystal HD cards have gone from $20 to $60-ish on ebay >_<
