After hearing the horror stories of the hinges on the A8JX models much as i wanted one im kind of steering clear due to that. How is the build quality of the F series? specifically like the F3T-AP042C or equalivent?

The build of the F3 will almost definitely worse than the A8. I don't know about specific problems or issues, but I have heard that it is somewhere between Dell and HP level build quality. You get what you pay for, I guess: the F3 has a very very low price, almost $800 lower than an almost identically specced V1Jp. But you get plastic instead of magnesium, WXGA versus WSXGA, etc.

I personally would still go with the A8Js or A8Jp, that model is in its second generation, so most of the problems should be sorted out by now.

Have to disagree, Vivek. My F3Jp,s in pristine condition, and now I'm thinking of getting a F3Sv. What's more, I've not got any of the problems that the other F3J series( c,m,v) owners have(the faulty audio dj), and afaik, none of the F3Jp owners have faced it so far. The F3Jp's built pretty okay but of course, if you plan on something more robust, check out the thinkpad T60/61. They are pretty strong, as far as consumer notebooks go.

    they are the same.

I would say though there is some reinforcement to the chassis not on the a8js in a different texture of plastic

The a8js has a shiny paint finish. they are mostly the same

the F3 chassis are a fair bit better than the A8....

A8's are even worse than my Z92...
