I installed Vista clean and no problems. I went back to XP clean from the Recovery discs and now although my headphones work, my laptop speakers do not.

I reinstalled the driver and checked the bios but still no luck. I'm working if it's just a fluke hardware problem or if Vista changed some settings... or maybe the NEW Vista driver that I downloaded affected the sound care firmware? is that possible?

The F3J series has a known sound issue, where the audio dj has to be replaced. The F3F may r may not have the same problem. I'd suggest that you check with the service centre.

I called for service and they are saying it's a hardware issue. I wonder if I did it by spraying compressed air into the speakers?? They also say there is a known hardware issue with my network controller because it can't detect it. So it's getting sent it...also to fix the lower right corner adhesion coming apart.

Not too impressed with ASUS now...

I reinstalled Vista on another partition. Speakers still don't work but I now notice a red laser light emitting from the headphone jack. The headphones still work though. I'm not so sure it's the speakers in the laptop anymore..

Looks like a classic variation of the AudioDJ sound board issue. It is a typical fault in the F3 series and yes, my F3Jc's left front side seems loose a little bit too

Yep.. The audio dj's faulty.. Almost all F3J's sold in the beginning have had this issue crop up in about 6 months..

Exactly 3 months for me....but lots of putting in and out headphones.

Not sure what to make of them saying i have a hardware problem with my network controller.

Hopefully it doesn't take long...I really wish that they would give me a loaner as I find it extremely difficult to be without my computer for a week or 2.

If it's an F3 series notebook, I'm betting it's the problem. It's been documented a lot in these forums, to there's nothing more I could add....

Finally got the drivers to install properly and once again, headphones work but speakers do not. It is 100% a hardware issue...just not sure what the audio dj is. I'm thinking that the speakers work just fine but the system "thinks" that the headphones are plugged in (even though they are not) and therefore mute the internal speakers. So maybe a tiny bent pin in the headphone jack?

Anyone know what the turnaround time is here in the Toronto, Canada area?

ok i'm VERY impressed with ASUS customer service... turnaround time was 3 or 4 days! Motherboard was replaced and the corner of chasis was fixed (adhesion came apart)... very impressed... not a scratch... everything perfect.

My question is that the speakers sound a little bit lower in output than before. I can't remember what it was set at in the bios before but i think it was maybe 4... now it's 5. What should I set it to? I'm guessing too loud will distort the speakers?

    Thanks!

I set the bios vol. setting to the max allowable and the volume is still somewhat lower than it used to be... is there anything that i'm missing?
