ASUS F3F, optical drive HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA 4082n

Does anyone know who makes this drive? I works well, as in burns stuff and reads all my media so far (unlike my bad experiences with Matshiita).

Ever since I bought this notebook a week ago I noticed the drive popping open all the time but I figured I just wasn't used to it and was unknowingly pressing the button with my hand. But then I realized a few times that I didn't touch it forsure. So after playing around, I noticed that if I press right under the button, kind of in and up that it pops open every time. After thinking about it, my old HP Pavillion did the exact same thing and i'm pretty sure that it had the same drive.

Is this a common problem? I'm guessing it's really not a defect but just an overly sensitive button and drive. Just pressing the drive in with my finger makes it scan or something because the light starts blinking.

anyone else have this problem? A couple of times it just popped open and I wasn't even near it. And a few times I couldn't even get it open by pressing the button but I was told by a friend that nero could do that cuz it's buggy.

    Any insight? Thanks!

The maker is LG Electronics. Good to hear everything is working well.

I'm still a little puzzled as to how you are opening your optical drive without touching it. I believe you but how exactly do you cause it open?

It seems your stating if you apply pressure on the faceplate of the optical drive, but not press the eject button, it will cause it to open.

This would be my first time hearing about this. Try uninstalling Nero for now, and redo your actions to open the drive, and see if it opens with or without Nero installed.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, if i apply pressure right under the button in and up it will open everytime. I'm assuming that the button is quite sensitive. It's easy for me to do this when i pickup the laptop with both hands on each side and the side of my end presses and when i lift, also up...so it pops out. I don't think could could have anything to do with it...it's hardware related.

On the other hand it has opened once without any physical contact so that could be nero but it's only happened once. I'm more concerned with it opening by putting a bit of pressure.
