I notice that when opening my lid after the screen has been off for a while, it is quite dim at first. Are LCD screens supposed to get brighter when warmer?

I have never noticed that, but it would make sense, in more extreme cases. Most monitors do take some time to "warm up" but that usually is done by the end of POST. If you are noticing a substantial increase in brightness, though, it is possible that there is a defect in your monitor which doesn't allow it to get to full brightness as quickly as it should. Perhaps someone else around here knows more...

CRT monitor need time to warm up, this shouldn't be the case with LCDs. More than likely it is your eyes playing tricks on you, or your power mode switching software acting up.

Yea he's right, Power4Gear uses dynamic system settings based on what you are doing. If it is messed up somehow it may be kicking around your screen settings mid-use. Is the change gradual or instant?

I've noticed this too. It takes a few seconds for the screen to come full brightness. This happens on stand-alone LCD monitors as well as my laptop's monitor. I think this is perfectly normal. I would compare this to how fluorescent light bulbs take a few moments to warm up to their full brightness. And if I'm not mistaken, I think the backlight in LCD monitors is a fluorescent lamp.

yeah, it's just when I open the lid (I have the settings set to "do nothing" when lid closed)... it looks dimmer than normal... not ALOT... but noticeable. After a few moments it's normal again. Maybe it is my eyes... who knows.

But yeah, fluorescent energy saving bulbs are the same... i actually hated them at first because when compared to conventional, I thought they were WAY too dim... but after warming up they are great.

I agree that it's normal. Overall though, even though the screen looks nice, I wish this AUO was brighter.
