    First post here for me.

My F5R seems to work fine until it goes to sleep or goes to stand-by. When I wake it up the fan is on full speed constantly. I have to shut it down and reboot and that resets the fan back to a normal running speed.
Any advice from anyone would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

If only a short time on hibernate/standby, the fan speed will generally come on high because the cpu temp will have jumped up during the sleep state (cpu still generating some heat after standby because the electronics are warm, but the fan is off so the heat stays there) to disperse the higher cpu temp being read by BIOS.

As for the difference in speed after reboot, that likely has to do with Asus not coding for dynamic downshifting of their fan speeds in many of the older models (including mine).... speed is high on wakeup because BIOS reads higher temp, temp goes down, you reboot and the temp is lower when BIOS reads it so the fan speed is back to normal.

Of course, all of the above does not apply if this speed thing is something that happens after your notebook has been in power-down for 20-30 min and then awoken.

    Thanks for the reply.

The problem with my machine is that once the fan switches on to full speed it stays there. Doesnt slow down at all.
    Next step contact ASUS??

Make sure you have latest BIOS and latest ACPI drivers, before doing anything else./
