As the new ASUS F6V-A1 laptops are coming out in a few weeks. I was reading in another website, the inside palm plate is made out of carbon fibre. Since it is made out of carbon fibre on the surface plam plate, does that mean under the carbon fibre is basically plastic? I heard plastic is better than aluminum since it can easily bend. Too bad Asus won't list out what the laptop is made out of.![]()

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
For the F6 series I would expect that Asus is going to be using CF-reinforced plastic if anything. Using straight carbon fiber is expensive and has only been reserved in the past for Asus' highest end models; the F6 doesn't qualify there. Reinforced by braces in the right places, plastic is going to be nearly as strong as CF, but the benefit of CF reinforcement is that it brings strength without the weight of plastic it replaces.
Plastic over aluminum - well, aluminum only loses strength if it's thin enough, but as soon as soon as you get any amount of thickness it's stronger than any comparable plastic depth, and both need to be potentially reinforced anyway depending on the size of the piece involved. -

Carbon fibre is embedded within the plastic, i.e. it's mixed in and then the whole thing is extruded like mixing two colors of playdoh into one and then using the new color
.
The paint used on the palmrest can potentially rub off, but that's true for every notebook in existence that isn't metal right there. Depends on your hand movements over time and the acidity of your sweat. -
Btw, are there any ways which you can protect the palm spot from not having any colour coming off? -

There are plastic adhesive things, but that's about it.

Scent Laptop? I'm out just because of that! Unless someone can prove to me at Asus that it's a chick magnet

Well, at least the black colored one doesn't look that feminine...after all, it's "inspired by extreme sports and graffiti art" and "emanates power, daring, and energy with its playfulness and musky scent"
