Hi all, I have an old ASUS M6Ne, whose Fn-F5/6 brightness controls used to change instantly. I mean no "fade" effect, just instant brightness change in steps, which is great.

Suddenly, over the last 3 days, it has started changing brightness so slowly I can hardly detect it. So I hit Fn-F6 a few times and a minute later it's come up bright. Same going down.

Also it's doesn't go as dark as it used to. When I read in bed at night, the very low brightness setting was nice to my eyes - but now it doesn't go that dark anymore! All very strange! Yet it's just as bright as it always was (when it finally gets there).

Anyone else experienced this phenomenon? I haven't installed anything new or updated any drivers. My system is as clean as can be. Startup is just firewall, a/v, SQL Server, hypersnap. Registry startup is clean. No weird services.

    Any advice appreciated!

It sounds possibly like an LCD inverter issue. To rule out the possibility of any type of software corruption you could back up your pertinent information and reinstall Windows. Then you would know for sure that it is a hardware issue if the problem persists even past reinstalled software. Thats my opinion.
