Nah, it's numerically superior, but technologically inferior ;) Still an awesome system for that price, though :)

Eh, I wish ASUS would offer a G50 in a more subtle casing. I don't mind using it around the house but I refuse to take it into public places.

i've been following the newegg site and other reviews for some time now. i'm supposed to buy the g50vt-x2 a few days from now. as i see it, the g50vt-x6 is equal to g50vt-x2, except that it doesn't come with the Alone In The Dark that is packaged with the x2. that's it.

overall, i guess it's still a good deal. it looks more professional to those non-gamers who need a high-end laptop with the removal of the Alone In The Dark sticker on its casing. (i prefer it that way).

i just wish they would include the Republic of Gamers backpack since according to the reviews, it's hard to find a bag that would fit it well.

No worries, it looks like this one also has the 2 year warranty... just look under the Manufacturer Info tab...

    * Manufacturer Limited Warranty period (parts): 2 years
    * Manufacturer Limited Warranty period (labor): 2 years

I'm really torn between this model ( G50VT-X6) and the Sager NP8660. Seems like the Sager is an additional $350 for the slight improvement in the GFX card (GTX) and that's pretty much it (when you compare with the same specs).

Is there an "upgrade" over the X6 coming out soon?

The X6 version is new as of yesterday, but there was an X5 version that popped up on Newegg a couple days ago. The only difference I saw was that it had the P8700 CPU.

Or you can look at the A1 or A2 versions, but they all have the same video card.

The GFX in the Sager is a 9800GTS (there has been 9800GT's, but they got discontinued).
The 9800GS in the Asus is just an underclocked 9800GTS.

Really? Even though the 9800GS is just a underclocked 9800GTS?

I have a Newegg preferred acct, though, and would get the interest free for 12 months (or whatever the promotion is). The ability to pay interest free over time is key for me and I'll probably go with the X6 or the A1. Haven't decided yet.

Just have to find someone I trust outside New Jersey to save on sales tax =l

im thinking gt. a 10% difference then. i would still get a sager since its more powerful, about a inch smaller, sexier, and less intrusive

Sweet, that makes a nice upgrade from the X2 version. Plus it loses the Orange strip on the top of the LCD screen.

But I am still torn between this model and the MSI G725 w/4850.

I just bought the G50VT-X6 from NewEgg today. Does anyone happen to know the part number/make/model of the Blu-ray combo the A2 ships with? Also has anyone found any additonal Asus accessories for this series- extra batteries, etc.. Google searches vary for whatever reasons on the series; thought I would get an opinion from actual owners of the machines. Thanks!! :D

It's weird how they just added the x2 in the list. The x2 and x6 are pretty much the same, just the p8700 on the x6. Wonder how those are gonna sell? Stupid market strategy I think.

I'm very much interested in this particular laptop. HOwever, the Asus N80vn-G appears to be a much better deal in terms of performance/gaming capibilities. I dig how it's lighter, which makes it more mobile. The n80 right now is 1199 while the g50 is 1349 (both on newegg). Is the G50 worth the price difference?

Depends on which games you play and what your tolerances are when it comes to sacrificing image quality. I got a G50Vt because I wanted to play Crysis at native resolution at high/medium high quality. But I believe most other games will be quite playable at native with a decent quality setting on a 9650GT. Maybe you can tell us what you play now and are planning to play in the future.

Not only is there a GPU difference between the N80 and G50, but the G50 also has the ability to house 2 hard drives. This would be a major plus for movie/music collectors as well as gamers. If your gaming demands are pretty flexible and don't require much hard drive space, then the N80 would be a better fit and likewise with the G50 if your preferences are the opposite.

I intend on playing COD World At War, Fallout 3, Crysis Warhead on the laptop i plan on purchasing. I already have Bioshock, Rainbow six Vegas 2, Mass effect, COD 4 and Crysis. All these games will be installed onto my new laptop. I'm just torn between these laptops. I don't mind spending the extra $300, it's just i'm asking myself is it worth it. $300 goes a long way nowadays.

Well if you intend on playing those games, go with the g50vt because it has a better graphic card, the ability to overclock the cpu and its a 15''.

    I don't think so.

I damn near bought one of these this last week after they went on sale for $1149 w/ free shipping. Hope I don't regret my decision to roll the dice and wait for the G51 to release an affordable model before the middle of August. I'm tempted to change my mind.

When it arrives, could you tell me if the case lid is solid black and does it also have the two side led strips everyone complains about? From Newegg's photo's it looked like it did not.

    Congrats on your purchase!

I got mine!!! Beautiful machine! Damn, my friends and I thought the my G1S was classy! This thing blows it out of the water in terms of looks!

Anyway, I did the GTS flash and put it on Extreme Turbo and got 8875 in 3Dmark06 at standard 1280x1024, not that low stuff people here have a weird habit of doingwithout even doing a clean Windows install! !

I'm going to play with SetFSB some and see if I can break through 9000! It feels like there's lots of room since the machine didn't get past warm when doing it! I barely even heard the fan! My G1S screams 10 seconds into the 3Dmark06 test!

    Yes, did it last night.

NO issues. :) All my games still work. All the ASUS programs work. I used the Upgrade button and everything works without a hitch. Windows 7 feels only slightly better than Vista did on this machine, but its pretty and has an easier GUI so yea :p. On my G1S though, the difference was more noticeable, due to it being a slower machine.

Using the Upgrade install takes like 2.5 hours, but if you do a fresh install, its 0.5 hours + 3 to reconfigure all your shizer and the headache of doing it.

It might warn you about a driver and about SmartLogon (if you use that) but everything went through flawlessly. Just make sure to turn off UAC (assuming you're not a total n00b) once its finished upgrading because it will interfere with some things you already have installed.

Or is it a better idea to wait for G51 later this summer?

Do you have money or do you want to save some money and buy this at the lowest retail price you will see it at? Pretty much dishes out the G51 or G50 decision.

I wanted this machine now last week so I bought it last week.

If you're going to wait until a faster machine comes out, than you'll never buy it because a faster machine comes out every few weeks.

Im gonna laugh if the G50 is listed as not qualifying. The brochure did say Qualified ASUS notebooks. I have a feeling if a G50 was left out it would be something like the X1 and X5, though the way things went pretty much 99% of the new ones were sold before the date.

No garuntee on which notebooks will get it. I think the majority of them will be currently produced models and those intented to be sold to people between that date and when ASUS starts shipping with 7.

Has anyone contacted ASUS and asked?

The X6 isnt a best buy model so......?

The X1 is already discontinued and the X5 wont be new for sale by the date it starts either. ASUS is offering it themselves as well for qualified notebooks. Almost every manufacturer and store is participating. I hesitate to say all of course.

Someone posted an ASUS flyer on these forums. So yeah, it looks like ASUS will be giving the free upgrade. But Clutch is right, we're not sure which models will be covered. I'm still gonna wait anyway :)

I posted something on the ASUS.com forums about this but I didn't get an answer. I guess I should stop being lazy and actually call ASUS about it.
