After spending years being a strong believer in Desktop computers and only desktop computers, I've found myself needing to purchase a Laptop. I've built many desktops and yet I know very little about laptops. What I would very much like to know is how does the Asus G51VX-X2A stack up against other laptops in its price range, (1300 - $2000) and where can I purchase a second battery for it. I know that it uses a 6-cell 11.1v 4800mAh battery, yet I don't know where to buy one. If anyone could help me out with either of these questions it would be greatly appreciated!

The X2A is one of the higher spec laptops out right now. It is a very good value with the 2.8GHz C2D and the GTX 260M. Everyone I know on here who has a G51 is in love.

I love my X2A, it's the best laptop I've owned so far (besides my old XPS 1710, that thing was awesome). X1A is also a great deal for nearly the same specs except the CPU is a bit weaker and has less cache.

A few of us here have the G51VX-X1A from Newegg. It's a P8700 CPU @ 2.53ghz. It's $1299. The X2A is $250 more and the only difference I can see is you get the T9600 CPU @ 2.80ghz. If you really need the extra speed that's fine. Newegg also has spare batterys:

For an extra $80 you can get a 2nd 320GB hard drive and setup RAID 0:

See my post on the link below with some benchmarks on the G51 with RAID vs. a Dell Desktop with a single SATA drive:
