Okay, so here's the problem, yesterday it was raining hard and for some reason whatsoever my roof leaks. So then water was pouring to my ASUS G1, which is located underneath the leak. I didn't know about this because I was away during this accident happen. I tried to let the laptop dried off several hours and tried to power it on, but in fact it won't. I don't know what to do right now. I tried to contact milestone pc about this problem, but they haven't replied yet. Any suggestions about this problem will be mostly helpful. Thanks

Ouch, what luck!
Where did it leak onto? And was the notebook on at the time? -
It leaks into the keyboard I guess and I did not remember if it was turned on or standby
-
If it was on at the time, there is a great probability of short circuit; which is a very bad thing.
Hope you can fix it
-
Does the G1 have a spill proof keyboard? if it does then perhaps the water dropped in other areas too. if u own that house, shame on u for not maintaining it enuff so it wudnt leak, if it was owned by someone else then maybe u can sue for damages?
-
No spill proof keyboard, but you can try blow drying the components by taking out the keyboard. Try it only if you know what you're doing though.
-
now there's a little bit progress.. the laptop will startup until the logon to the user name in windows.. but however I cant type my password because several numbers in the keyboard couldn't be pressed and the mouse cursor is weird
-
sounds like just some waterspots from impure water (ie rainwater)
you might have to take it (keyboard/mouse area) apart and just clean it as much as you can with something like rubbing alcohol.
at least it turns on though ^^ -
yes, I was just so relieved that it turns on.... how do I take apart the keyboard and the mouse area?? Is there any specific instructions on how to do this?? I am not really good at taking laptop parts off

The laptop portrayed in the link is a G1, but I believe the keyboard design is same or similar and it shows how to take the keyboard off. Good luck. ^.^b -
Be careful with alcohol. I've read it damages the rubber components of your keyboard. Distilled water maybe better.
-
Yeah, was more or less saying alcohol for the electrical contacts... wasn't thinking about the rubberyness of the keyboard sorry ^^;
-
You need to let it dry for more then just a few hours before you use it again.
Seriously, 2-3 days. -
okay now the keyboard is working perfectly fine, but the touchpad isn't working.. I guess I need to dry it up more.. or is there any way that I can pull out the touchpad??
there is also one more crucial problem I think.. on the desktop there's this error message:
A usb device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You should disconnect the device.
The error says that it is located on USB root hub (8 ports), and underneath there are 5 unused ports, 1 unknown device, USB2 1.3M web cam, HID compliant consumer control device. I tried to click the reset button but this error message still appear.
Please help me to fix this -
Sounds like a short somewhere on your USB, making it shut down.
Just let it sit for a day or so more to see if you can get everything to dry out alright, like earlier suggested.
If after then things keep messing up... then depending you might be able to send it in for repair or do it yourself. -
omg, how could you be so cruel to turn on your laptop only after a few hours to dry! You should never turn on a wet laptop /possible wet laptop. Take the battery out and air dry it with your mothers hair dryer! - and not on high effect but low warm. Then let it stay for 2-3 days atleast before you turn it on. Also contact the manufacter and ask what guarantee you have before you take the laptop apart to dry the parts inside!
-
and one more thing is that whenever I plugged the AC adapter to the laptop it automatically turns on! how do I fix this then?? and whenever it starts it always goes into the CMOS setting first and asks me to set up the date and time..
-
a leak on your roof??? sounds fishy!
-
-EquinoX- what I would do is stop turning the system on, - sounds like there are a number or short circuits from not only water, but dampness from water damage near other circuitry.
Open the case up as much as you can disassemble on your own. Let it all dry with a fan blowing on parts, keyboard included, for at least 2-3 days.
No kidding, it takes that long.
Check into your homeowners insurance, or renters insurance because this situation warrants it. Depending on how much water damage it got and how much it fried by adding electricity to the mix, you might not know immediately.
keep us posted on your progress! Best wishes, Robin -
yeah.. now there's only one problem with my G1..
A usb device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You should disconnect the device.
I didn't turn the power on now.. I hope this resolves soon.. , but do you guys know if this kind of damage still exists after I have left the laptop for a week.. how much do you think it's going to cost me?? $100??
I spoke to the apartment and it seems that I didn't have the renter's insurance. The only choice that I have if the problem still persists is to call ASUS and have it repaired. -
Water damage, unfortunately, is very destructive, it's not the water itself that is deadly, it's condensation as well!
As for damage, it's hard to say without finding the main problem, if it's the motherboard, then ouch, it's going to be a big chunk, from $300-$500. -
Quit messing with the dang thing like everyone is telling you and let it dry out. Then if you are still having problems repost here or just call in to ASUS tech support.
Renter's insurance is a good idea to get. It's only about $100 a year where I live. -
Water is not dangerous to electronics as long as its not POWERED. I've spill BEER on my old laptop's keyboard. I immediately unplugged AC and pulled the battery out. I actiually used a wet piece of cloth to wipe off the beer, then i let it dry in the oven at 35-40 C..- yes it was a sight to see my laptop inside an oven and i did make sure nobody turned up the heat. However 2 days later and after 5 hours in the oven, it worked just as new.
ASUS G1 problem! Totally need help
