Hi guys,
do you remember when I posted a G1S XP driver pack a couple of months ago?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=130219 The Link didn't work anymore and a lot of people asked me about the driver pack since then.
I don't even own a G1S Laptop (I wanted to buy one back then, but I didn't)
But hey...I thought it would be useful for some of you if I re-upload the driver pack again.
So, here it is:
these are the latest drivers to date 04.02.2008

So I'm very new at this, but as I understand it, I need to take these drivers and insert them into an xp setup disc. And that has to be done with nlite?
Is this a complex procedure, or will it be very obvious once i find that program? Also, is there a simple guide for this?
I just tried to install xp on my g1s and discovered that things were not meant to be that easy, thus provoking my intense and burning anger. so bad, in fact, that i calmly sat down and asked my good friend, the internet, for help.
Anyway, thanks ColdSoul

Hi, no you don't need to slipstream (I think that's the correct word) these drivers on the XP CD. The only thing that needs to be slipstreamed is the SATA driver -- and even that only if you can't temporarily disable SATA enhanced mode from the BIOS. Either slipstreaming, or disabling, is needed for XP to recognize the SATA HDD and install on it.
Afterwards, the drivers in the driver pack can be installed in the usual fashion (find setup.exe, double click, you know what I mean)

Hey I've got XP installed on my G1S and I used the drivers in the listed package, but I've been having some problems.
My USB ports don't seem to recognize certain devices anymore (such as my Creative Zen, and yes I reinstalled the software for it), and my Wireless internet seems incredibly slow and erratic (frequent disconnects and lag in startup). The wireless was extremely fast when I was running Vista, so this has to be a driver issue, the hardware is fine.
If anyone could help me out that'd be great, thanks. -
Please don't double post, if people have an answer they will answer here. You might post to "bump up" the thread after a while with no answer, but making separate threads for things you already asked just clutters up the forum.

If you need help slipstreaming these drivers into an XP CD, check in the G1S 'official' forum, there is a very good wiki site someone made about how to do it.
-
No, I don't need help with slipstreaming. I already slipstreamed the SATA drivers in and have XP installed and working on my laptop. The only issues I'm having seem to have to do with the drivers.
Although, since most of the slow internet connection issues I encounter are related to web browsing and web browser downloads, maybe the problem lies there. What I mean is, my download and connection speeds are decent while using Steam or uTorrent, but very poor when using Firefox or IE. -
You guys are a godsend....when i got the laptop i had vista on it.....went to xp......xp kept on crashing so i went back to vista(like an idiot) and now i went back to xp....without the driver pack id be screwed with vista!!!
thanks guys(coldSoul and liquidsteel) -
I installed XP without slipstreaming the sata driver into the XP installation disc. I just updated my BIOS to 305, and changed an option in my BIOS from enhanced to compatablity. However, after installing XP, I changed it back to enchanced but get the BSOD everytime I try it. So right now I'm running in compatability.
So following guides online, I ran the Intel Matrix Storage Manager (which won't install because of system requirements), left it open, and went to WINDOWS/TEMP/IIF/WINALL/DRIVERS/
In there I have 2 INF files, "iaahci.inf" and "iastor.inf". I've read I have to go to device manager and manually selecting "iaahci.inf" as the driver for the update for Intel(r) ICH8M 3 port Serial ATA Storage Controller -2828. When I hit ok I get sevaral different SATA AHCIl Controllers. Does anyone know which controller I need to update? and also should I be using the iaahci.inf or iastor.inf? Thanks. -
I do not know an answer to your question. I do know that it's very difficult to succeed in doing what you are trying to do; and the benefits if you succeed are marginal.
That being said, there have been people who succeeded in installing the SATA drivers post-XP-install and then using Enhanced mode. Not sure if for the G1S though. A search through the forums might help. -
Thanks for your reply E.B.E.
However I figured it out last night. The driver pack that was posted on these forums had iata86.exe. Which is the latest version of Intel Matrix Storage Manager which did not work for me when extracting the INF files. After digging through the internet looking for the previous version, which was iata78.exe, I finally found it. That version of Intel Matrix Storage Manager worked for me. However, I used "iastor.inf" before trying out the "iaahci.inf" to update Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller to be able to switch to enchanced mode in my bios, so I'm not sure if that would work too. I haven't tried it and I doubt I will since it took me a few hours of trial and error to figure it out.
If anyone updated there BIOS then switched to compatablity mode from enchanced, then installed Windows XP (without slipstreaming), and are having trouble as well switching back to enchanced mode, just post up here or send me a PM and I will give you instructions as well as uploading the iata78.exe file which you will need to extract those INF files.
I've had to take a bit of information from a bunch of different posts and put pieces together from each to figure it out for my situation. Thanks all for the info. -
