    Hi,

I am getting BSOD in ASUS G1S(vista ultimate) very often when it try put the system into sleep and try to wake it up. its happening very often. its driving me crazy...i thought it would be memory problem and ran memtest86 whole night could nt find any problem with that..

the problem is...i put the system in to sleep and when i come back and see after some time the system seems to restarted with BSOD... sometimes trying to wake up from sleep the screen stays black and hard disk is spinning for sometime and it goes quiet..i have to do the hard reset..

I checked the MS kb and applied this hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941858/en-us..even after that also its happening..

i called asus support and as usual they say update bios and reinstall vista...i did that too..

i analysed the memory dump files and find this..

    C:\Debug>kdfe -v

    Following crash dump files found:

    1. "C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP"
    2. "C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini072807-01.dmp"
    3. "C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini080507-01.dmp"

the last message in the event viewer before getting the BSOD is

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the
    LanmanWorkstation service.

    System entering sleep state.

the problem seems to be lie in the pci ethernet driver...so i updated it to the latest...

    doesn't help..

I could nt isolate the problem...whether it is vista or hardware... i am not seeing any people complaining about this problem much in the net with G1S with pci ethernet card

    Any help would be appreciated

Given that Ethernet update didn't solve the issue:

Are you sure the ACPI drivers are installed correctly? If not, make sure they are or possibly update them.

I say this because sleep/hibernate errors are usually associated to ACPI.

Also if you use modded drivers for some things, I suggest trying without them (remove and install stock).

the acpi drivers are installed correctly..i just reinstalled the vista and the stock drivers...no mod with acpi or any other driver...i just used plain vanilla drivers provided by asus..

    BIOS update?

Do you have maybe an XP kit to do a dual-boot? (but that takes some work) And see if the stuff happens there.

An easier way is to get Linux Live (knoppix, slax) and put the computer to sleep.

If the problem happens in other OS-es it's certainly hardware. But be aware that different OSes put components in low-power modes in different ways, so it may be hardware even if the other OSes do not crash.
