Okay.. I have had this laptop for a few months now and the other day I went to update my VGA drivers from ASUS.COM's driver support. After running the program, it said it had to clear out the old drivers, then restart the laptop and install the updated version. However, when it did that, I got an error at the startup saying that this driver is intended for use on Vista x32bit (WHICH I AM USING).. So I system recovered back to get my video drivers back and ever since I have had problems running a game called Team Fortress 2 which ran perfectly fine before I attempted to update. The game will crash at times it shouldn't, etc.

Ever since I have: Used the ASUS Tech CD to re install the drivers directly from their software and that only has caused more problems.

I was considering say forget it and reformatting completely because I don't feel like putting up with this and the recovery cd will not even run. I get an error saying that it couldn't support something that was trying to be located on the hard drive.

Can anyone give me some guidance to this ridiculous bull**** presented by ignorance of ASUS and Microsoft?

I am considering just moving to XP but I know it's not JUST that simple. I don't mind keeping Vista but I am having trouble overall with this VGA problem.

    Hi, I suggest the following:

Remove the current drivers (Uninstall from AddRemove software).
    Reboot in safe mode.
Use DriverCleanerPro to remove the remnants of the old drivers. (I believe it works in Vista, otherwise look for an equivalent software)
    Reboot again.
    Install new drivers.

Post back if this doesn't fix the issue.

    I don't think it's time to reformat yet :)

Didn't work. I get the same problems as I had before when running the game.

    I am not surprised.

I meant to add I do appreciate your help.

And apparently if I use the recovery CD to fix my laptop completely, I lose my partitions, which means I lose ALL of my music (which is about 15 gigs) and about 4 gigs of video...

AMAZING SUPPORT ASUS. You guys rule. If I could go back I would not have gotten this laptop.

THIS IS FOR VISTA 32BIT if ur using XP or Vista 64bit get the driver and modded INF from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showforum=72

    3) Uninstall ur current driver.
    4) Reboot notebook

    7) Place modded INF in to the 169.01 or 169.04 folder and overwrite existing file.

    kevin,

You can select "Recover to 1st partition only" in which case all the data on the D: partition remains intact.

But please, dont rely on this 100%, if you have important data back it up anyway, things can always go wrong.

Thanks guys, I think the first fix idea actually worked, I reinstalled the game and the problems seemed to go away. However, I fear this may be temporary so I will refer back to this if needed.

Well appreciated to all of your responses :)
