Hi, I can't seem to find any solutions for this problem on the web so I might as well give it a shot in this forum..
I just got this ASUS G1S about a month ago, and the Direct Console to me was pretty useful for its MSN reminder function (especially when I'm running full-screen programs.)..

But now most of the time, I keep getting this "Load MSNHOOK.DLL Failed" message when I log into Vista. After that, the Direct Console can't be opened and MSN messages will not appear on the LED display.

When I check the directory, C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Direct Console, MSNHOOK.DLL isn't there and there is this file with the time and date on it (Error log file?) that is something like this :
    MSNHOOK.DLL_2008.01.11.10.29.52

I re-installed the program several times with no luck, after a day or 2, MSNHOOK.DLL will fail to load and it disappears from the directory again.

Right now, I'm just keeping a copy of MSNHOOK.DLL in another folder, and every time the message appears when I log in, I just copy it into the original directory and reboot the laptop..And this is annoying.

Any other G1s users experiencing this problem? Solutions?

(ASUS forums is also down. That sucks too.)

Nope it didn't work. It happened again even though I shut down the PC normally.
I just don't understand why ASUS can't look into this problem.

I got the same error. The problem is that for some reason anti spyware /anti virus tools remove it due to they think that this is a troyan horse to its pretty similar way of working.
It hooks in the Windows OS datas to read out some informations like for instance the time and displays it on the litte display next to the activity, caps etc. LEDs.

The best thing for you would be to reinstall the Direct Console tool and add MSNHOOK.dll to the ignore list of your security software.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I have found the program that is causing this problem. Its an anti-game hack program that came with one of the online games I played (Called X-trap). Everytime I start up the game, it tends to crash immediately with the anti-hack reporting that they have suspected some sort of macro running. Everytime it does so, it renames the MSNhook.dll (Adding the date and time behind the .dll), so it doesn't load properly on the next boot up.

I've already un-installed the game so now everything's okay. Thanks!

This happened to my G1S as well because of AVG.

I switch over to Avira AntiVir and it didn't detect any problems. I think AVG gives a lot of false positives.
