As an owner of a 2200.00 notebook from ASUS I was so happy the day it arrived. A few months later it would boot but the screen would not come on. Well I have done research on other forums and 100's of people have the same problem. ASUS sold faulty machines. The G2S boots fine all bios are updated including graphics drivers and the screen will just stay black and not come on. no there is nothing wrong with the LCD, it appears ASUS has a problem and they wont address it to any one who has complained. It will work for a whlle then Ill turn it on just to hear it boot but no screen. This is a problem with their Motherboard as the graphics card is integrated into the MB. I have spoked to many people and they arte all experiencing the same thing. So if you want a high dollar notebook that will not display then buy it. Otherwise stay away from the G2S. ASUS will not even respond to the technical issues. I am warning every where I can. Do some resaerch and you will find what I am saying is true. They will not fix it and they will not respond to any technical assistance. I am grouping people together who are experiencing the same issue and starting a lawsuit against ASUS. THE G2S is a faulty machine and they will do nothing about it to fix this problem. If you are experiencing this issue please leave your name and an email so I can include you with the others who have participated in this major problem. ASUS WAKE UP. YOU ARE MY FAVORITE NOW IM SO DISAPPOINTED AS i SIT HERE WITH IT AND IT HAS NO SCREEN. Does anyone know what boards will fit into the G2S chassis?

What GPU does it have?
If you're going to throw the motherboard away you might as well try this:

Hi the gpu in question is the 8600m gt. I have also experienced the same problem as the op and am currently having it sent back to asus for an out of warranty repair. Once the fault is diagnosed I will take it further if I can.

@NIN
Why do not you sent it back to Asus, as its in warranty (you said after few months). Else drag them to court and ask for $1 billion as compensation. I wonder how they are popular in USA, here in India many have not heard of Asus -
Hi NIN,
I am having the same problem. Conveniently for ASUS it happened just as my warranty ended a couple weeks ago. I did call them but no result, they are so willing to repair it as out of warranty, so they can make $$$. If you still checking this thread my @ is [email protected]. -
This is not ASUS's fault, it's nVidia's fault. Nearly all 8000 and 9000 series had a defect that caused them to run extremely hot or die early. If you want more information, just search "nvidia defect" on Google.
nVidia paid some huge amounts of money to nearly every PC manufacturer out there to compensate for the huge losses that the pc makers had taken for replacing so many PCs still in warranty. Unfortunately, this was kept fairly hush-hush, so most people didn't know to turn in their computers before teh warranty was up.
I also have a G1S that finally died after about two years of use. I'm lucky, a lot of peoples computers died much earlier than that. I'm just going to get another laptop, but a number of people have had success in either getting replacement computers or very cheap fixes (around $100 -- pretty cheap if you consider you're replacing the motherboard).
I'd suggest to call ASUS and see what they can do. They may or may not offer you a replacement or out-of-warranty repair. You can try fighting, and you might mention the defect on the nVidia 8000 boards, but I wouldn't necessarily expect too much. Keep in mind that this is not limited to ASUS, but it ranges every notebook manufacturer out there.
There's also a forum to help with people affected by the defect. It's based in the UK, but you might still try asking around there if you're still interested.

Ha ha. In extreme cases (e.g., you're going to throw your laptop away), you might also consider baking your video card.
