My 1st post... I did a search, and saw nothing about this. Please forgive me if I missed it, and I'll work on my search proficiency. :p

***Has anyone else seen this problem or behavior. Or have an idea about a solution???***

    Description:
I have had an a G50VT-A2 for about a month now, and been very pleased for the most part. I got it to do a variety of tasks... One is to model with Blender and I had been using to another machine and finally made the switch today.
I hadn't used the included Razor Copperhead mouse till today. I installed it using the drivers included on the laptop, and it seemed to work great.... ...Then suddenly the mouse and Synaptic touch buttons appeared to become dysfunctional. I could see that the Synaptic touchpad was sensing the buttons and taps in the system tray. I removed the mouse from the USB port, and rebooted. All went back to normal. I plugged the mouse back in, then once again the buttons on the touchpad, touchpad taps, and the mouse buttons all seemed to "give up the ghost".
Then I noticed that if I left clicked the mouse, I could grab the frame of Yahoo Messenger, but *no* other running program. If I killed Yahoo Messenger, the mouse and touchpad continued *not* to function properly as far as the buttons were concerned.
If I then hit Alt-Ctrl-Del, then just return back to Vista to work with the running applications, everything then works normally with the mouse attached...

***Any suggestions to get everything working happily together???***

I think I properly described the behavior, and if I see anything else will follow up...
Thanks in advance for any help. :) This is a great forum, I have been a lurker for a while. :)

i would suggest downloading the newest available drivers for the touchpad and the mouse from synaptics.com and razerzone.com, respectively.

The Synaptics driver at their site is the same version the G50 already has. I downloaded the latest Copperhead driver from their site, and still the same problem and results.

    Any other ideas??? :swoon:

when I use my external mouse and kb, I click on the touch key that looks like the touchpad. You should get a graphic saying your mouse pad is disabled and see if that helps. I have yet to see the issue you are reporting on mine.

Thanks for the suggestion. I already had tried that.
That has no effect on this problem... Even so, both should play happy together. If I disable the touchpad, it has no effect on the original problem either. If I re-enable the touchpad, it has no effect. Still having the problem, but able to to get everything working with the jury-rig of hitting "Alt-Ctrl-Del" to go to the Vista 'shutdown' menu, then hitting "Esc" to return to the working desktop... ...But would like an explanation and final solution ideally.

What if you do not install the drivers? The mouse should have some basic functionality with default Windows drivers I guess. If that works, then the hardware is probably OK, and it is more likely to be software problems.

What if instead of killing YMsngr you do not allow it to start at all? If the mouse works properly then, it's a YMsngr problem/conflict (although it seems unlikely).

Exactly. I use the copperhead all the time. I did not install the copperhead drivers. No need for them. The default drivers Windows will install work perfectly.

Hmmmm... This problem started with the drivers that came installed on the PC. The first time I used the mouse, it was with the software that came installed, minus the bloatware I removed. I'm not sure what driver was the first I had on the machine. When I brought up the applications listed on the machine, there was nothing for a mouse there, so I assume that the the mouse was using the Windoze Vista driver that is standard. That is when I first had the problem. I then installed the Razor Copperhead drivers, the latest ones, and still have the problem.

I disabled Yahoo Messenger starting at the end of the bootup, and the machine still exhibits the same behavior. I think that Yahoo Messenger works with the mouse when other applications do not because it intercepts the mouse events in a different manner than the other software. (I think it is compiled under Trolltech QT or something similar to that instead of a Microsoft compiler). So the Yahoo Messenger has no bearing on the issue.

If I remove the drivers I have the same issue....
I think I may have to just start removing items from my system tray and see if the problem fixes itself after I delete one of them.

I someone disagrees about my driver history based on what I am describing, please correct my errors in thinking.

I am having the exact same problem except I have the A1 version. It is really getting on my nerves too! I think it has something to do with the mouse's firmware (I have everything updated to the most recent as of 3-22-09), because I have had some of the same problems while trying to install ubuntu... then again, ubuntu has been giving me problems anyway...

I would really like to know how to fix this issue. I'll get back to you if I solve it...

    Thanks

Haha! Ended up with a Solution!

Turns out if you uninstall the Synaptics program, it will get rid of the issue. I am not too disappointed that I can't do touchpad scrolling anymore, so it isn't much of a problem for me. Hopefully they will fix this...

Edit: Actually, I spoke too soon. Just opened up the control panel and it happened to me again... arg....

I finally zeroed in on the problem. It is the mouse! I tested it on a few different vista computers and it did the same thing (unless there was another mouse setup...). Sounds like Razor has to fix this...
