finally it's out. it looks really good except the cpu
-
Ah I was hoping it was the A1 or A2 models. Thanks for this though.
-
-
They should offer a version of the G50 that is between this version and the A1, with a 8400 Processor or something. I would def go for that, the graphics card is much better than the M50VM-B1 that I'm considering, and the price would be around the same. I would take a hit on my processor for the performance in gaming.
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
With that rocket of a gpu in there, I'll wager that the T5xxx series cpu is there to stay in the Asus NA's final Ensemble import
.
My reasoning for this prediction is that Asus is going to have to keep the price point down for the mainstream North American market (i.e. this is the G1 replacement) and the high-end T9xxx series could push the retail up too far for their marketing targets. Besides, the cpu isn't the bottleneck in the majority of games still, it's the gpu.... Crysis etc is going to run much better on a T5xxx with 9700GT than a T8/9xxx with 9600gs.
We'll see if I'm right in a few days when the final specs/pricing are released.
-
Those numbers arnt as high as i was hoping, I cant wait to see what the A1 with better drivers will pull.
-
Yeah but isn't the T5xxx series version about 1250$? up it for 150$-200$ at around 1400/1450$ for the same gpu, but upgraded to a T8xxxx processor would make it one of the best deals around... and for 200~ more you get another upgrade to T9400 to the A1 price. I would definitely go for that combo of processor/gpu for that price. For the people that are less intensive on gaming, they could have the same price (1450~) but the upgraded processor and downgraded GPU (this making it the M50VM-B1).
Ah well, -
Yeah I'm pretty disappointed about those 3dmark scores as well...
I wish you guys would use the 1280x1024 resolution in your benchmarks. Most of us have not bought 3DMark, so this is the only resolution that means squat to me.
Anyway, how are the speakers? How is the screen? These were the biggest weaknesses of the old Asus I had in the past. They were so bad I swore I'd never buy another Asus, but I may be swayed. -
From my experience scores between 1440x900 and 1280x1024 (~10% pixel count difference) really don't fluctuate much (probably ~10%). Also, the score reflects the CPU, which generally doesn't hinder gaming by a huge amount.
-
This is what I want except with the T9400- I bet itll get 7000 w/ Default settings!!
And CPU Scores count for alot in 3dmark 06 and a T9400 form a T5450 is a huge difference. -
Is there a built in microphone? If so where is it located? Any idea how the sound quality is?
-
How about screen quality?
Is it grainy?
I've got V1s affected in such a way and white color looks terrible. -
judging from photos, the mic is near the webcam
-
Judging by the pictures, is there a sub in this system? I think I saw a speaker looking thing on the bottom. Or maybe that's a special looking air vent.. I have no idea.
-
Any idea on the battery life during normal use?

Aw man I was hoping for the A1 or B1 model too.
I was at BB today and forgot to look at this! But it doesnt look as bad as I originally thought from your pictures and now I am pretty much sure this is the laptop I want (the G50V-A1)
What about the speakers, they are not out in the open like the M50, so are they still there just under mesh or are they now inside the laptop near the front (like my c90s)
If I could request a few things it would be that you add a CPU-Z screen shot of the cpu specs & the ram specs.
And something like everest to show us the display panel specs. -
Most Best Buys in my area has them in stock, but none of them had it on display. Fortunately enough, I insisted on seeing it first "before I made the purchase" and the sales guy actually brought one out for me and opened it!
It looks pretty darn amazing... even the box looked really cool~! It wasn't like our C90S boxes at all.I don't remember where the speakers were since I was so amazed at the aesthetics
Sorry.. couldn't really answer your question, but thought I might bring that up for kicks
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Thats why I didnt look at it, I diddnt see it on display but I didnt look hard so thought maybe I missed it.
I'll go to the up-town BB today maybe just for kicks, or rather I should call first and ask to save gas/time. I need some blank media anyways, wanna try out my new lightscribe buner, need to find out if its cheaper to get at BB or online + S&H -
hm. what type of power adaptor does it use? I live in Australia and if I buy one from the US (no news of getting it here in the near future) it will have a US AC Adaptor.
Also, maybe a subwoofer is included with higher spec models? (I hope. That would be brilliant) -
Sure if you buy it from US you'll have an US cable. But all you need is a socket adapter, or alternatively the cable that goes from the mains/wall to the adapter.
-
I meant voltage but a converter would be much easier ^^
-
Worldwide voltages and frequencies are supported by all ASUS adapters.
-
thanks. I was a bit worried that I would have to go find a special adaptor.
-
How are the quality/loudness of the speakers? That's my biggest concern right now.
-
Beetween the A1 and A2 models the only difference is the HDD RPM and Size and the Blueray drive, right?
-
What's the battery life on the standard 6 cell battery that's included with it? Also, does the 9 cell battery stick out on the bottom at all?

DVD Super Multi RW (G50V-A1) v.s. Blu-Ray Reader + CD/DVD Burning Feature (G50-A2) -
Thanks, do you happen to know the manufactures of the HD's for the A1 and A2? I think I might pre-order tonight.
-
I saw your post about the battery life but i guess its in standby mode. What is the battery life under load?
Is the 7200 RPM HDD consuming more power than the 5400 rpm one? -
Is the 9700M GT in SLI with a low end GPU like a 9100M?
That would make battery life considerably better. -
Are the lights on the side and on the back always on, or is there a way to disable them, and do you know if there will be a model with a ddr2 800mhz ram or even ddr3?
And thanks for the preview. -
Does this notebook use an LED display?
-
thanks for the preview. does this laptop feature expressgate?
how does that cpu compare to the T9400? would that bump up the 3dmark score?
how does the 9700GT stack up against the 9800GT?
when will these ship? -
T9400 will bump the 3dmark score, it does have expressgate, and the 9800gt imo is a significant step up from the 9700gt but they are both great cards.
-
LoL alot of questions haha, 9700GT is suppose to be between 8800m gts and 8800m gtx which is awesome.
Expressgate seems pretty cool- I think you can disable it in the bios.
No LED display on this- Wouldnt make much of a difference, I dont see PQ difference between the two only a bit of battery saved on the LED model.
People should note that I personally think DDR2-800 will be better than DDR3-1066 (which on desktop ram is actually still DDR2 JEDEC Specs)
Anyways I think the timings on ddr3-1066 is very loose- Like 7-7-7-21, whilst ddr2-800 is either 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-15 -
i dont think the 9700m gt is between the 8800m gts and gtx is it?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Its between the 8800gs & gts I think.
-
9700M GT is the highest model of the GPUs with 32 unified processors (the 9600M GT, GS & 9500M GS has this too) The 9700M GTS has more (48?) while the 9800M GT has yet even more. Not sure about the 9800M GT or GTX. But the 8800M GTX had 96 unified processors. (BTW, more processors = more graphics capability).
The 9700M GT is a notch down from the 8800M GTS (64 unified processors), but faster than the 8700M GT (32 unified processors), so by logic it must be a successor (successor means faster not equal).
EDIT: A friend of mine has said the 9800M GTX has 112 unified processors while the 9800M GT has 96, the same as the 8800M GTX and that the 9700M GTS models up (excludes the 9700M GT which has 128-bits) have a 256-bit memory interface. More bits = more speed. -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=272659
the 8800gtx and 9800gt are essentially identical in performance despite having different configurations.
right now i have the Sager NP8660 ordered for 1617.95 (not including a $25 gas card):
15.4" WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) Glossy LCD
nVIDIA 9800GT 512 GDDR3
Intel® Core2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz Processor w/3MB L2 On-die cache - 1066MHz FSB
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
2GB (1 SODIMM) DDR3/1066 Memory
320GB SATA II 3GB/s 5,400 RPM Hard Drive (8MB Cache Buffer)
Combo Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW CD-R/RW Drive w/Softwares
7-in-1 Memory Card Reader (MS/MS PRO/MS DUO/SD/Mini-SD/MMC/RSMMC)
Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 5300 802.11a/g/n
Built-in Bluetooth Wireless
8-cell Smart Li-ion Battery
and im reconsidering now because all along ive been wanting the asus warranty, since i will be in Israel the next two years. even though the specs on my M860TU are about $200 cheaper than everyone elses the warranty + all the other superiorities of this asus make me very tempted. i dont game a ton but when i do i want to play on high settings and im waiting to see if the 9700GT would cut it. -
It will cut it for most games except Crysis I think.... I'm hoping lol
-
yeah im hoping the same. not trying to play crysis but would really like to see how it performs compared to the 8600m gt
-
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
For assistance in GPU comparisons. -
The 9700M GT scores roughly 6652 in the same program, so it would be safe to assume the 9700M GT (with 512MB DDR3) will perform close to 2 8600M GT's in SLI. -
sounds nice.

Hi there,
I already put a T8300 into this good looking computer. I also use the turbo mode that basically overclock cpu (T5750 2ghz to 2.26 ghz, T8300 2.4 ghz to 2.6ghz), gpu (I don't know the clock speeds) and the memory. The windows experience score after the turbo and T8300 is 5.3 and is limited by the HD and the memory ( I changed the memory too. Instead of 4gb I have 3gb 667 so I may get another .1 from the WES). Thw 3DMark scores did not really change though. Before the CPU update at turbo mode I got 6400ish and after the CPU upgrade at turbo mode I got 7200ish. which is still much below the gateway fx computer with the 8800gts. I will try putting a P8 series CPU and check out the scores. By the way the speakers on this computer are not really that good compared to dell laptops. It is still better than the gateway fx laptop but not by much. One other thing the grill under the computer is a fan opening. I was hoping for a giant sub-woofer. The biggest problem I have is the wifi card. I can not connect to a wireless netword without issues. They are using something other than intel 4965. (I can not remeber the model number but it was a atheros brand, same brand ASUS used in eee pc) Let me know if you want to know anything about the system.
Thanks -
The 9800M GT is the 8800M GTX. This has been thrashed out conclusively in the Sager/Clevo forum.
And am I the only one who thinks this laptop is hideous? I think it's the orange plus the side lighting.
