I replaced the T5750 my G50Vm-X1 used to have with a T9600 in December of last year. Since then the thermal paste has since broken in (Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound) and general temperatures have been lower than previously.

My issue is that the CPU temperature for some reason seems to be reading higher than the hottest core temperature. I'm used to there being a slight discrepancy of cores by 0-5°C from my previous CPU so I figured that as being normal.

What I'm unsure about is why, just to give an example, I can have a temperature in my hottest core of... say, 38° while idling, and yet, my CPU will read as being 46°.

To give another example, while experimenting with some overclocking, at the level of about 20%, I had a core temp read out of about 68-69°, but just out of curiosity, I minimized and the CPU temp read as 78°. The GPU temp, likewise, read at 86°.

This makes absolutely zero sense to me and if anyone can provide any assistance or suggestions, I'm open.

I've used Everest Ultimate for about a year and a half now so that would be the answer.

you're using two programs no? how else could there be a discrepancy? from what you're saying in your post it sounds like 1 program is showing 38C and another 46c....unless I'm missing something? Also, dl and check HWMonitor, post results here.

I would suppose I am being ambiguous so I'll just show what I mean:

Per your request, here's the HW Monitor result as well:

Basically, I'm trying to understand why there could be such a discrepancy between the ACPI temp and the Core temp(s).

ACPI temp is that of your northbridge, it is not your "CPU" temperature.

And with that, I feel sheepish...

Well, thank you for your help as I honestly did not know this before. I'm rather relatively new to the temperature monitoring.

Please enjoy some rep as a token of my gratitude.

if you look in everest it says sensor type: ASUS NB ACPI, NB=northbridge, just for future reference =]
