I definately want this machine, I'm hoping Newegg or GentechPC will get a version of this that is not stripped down like the Best Buy version.
-
I'm so glad Asus finally put out a high performance GPU
The new G50Vt will surely draw lots of attention from the gaming community. It also seems like they chose a more conservative gray color. But I agree with matrinix, i certainly wouldn't want a crippled version of the G50Vt. Definitely wait until Gentech has them.
-
Wow, I prefer the looks on the VT, even with that flashy design on the LCD lid. If the non-Best Buy version comes with WSXGA+ and at least a P8600, it'd probably make sense to wait. Any thoughts on how much impact the 9800 would have on battery life?
-
With the 7811FX being discontinued this week from BB and only $100 more than the new BB ASUS, what would make the ASUS a stronger buy atm over the 7811FX?
Still curious as to the performance of the 9800GS vs the 7811's 9800GTS. -

this asus weights 7.3p with a 15.6" frame.
thats just too heavy for a laptop at that size.
besides who knows how well 9800m gs performs at this point.
is 9800m gs a new card or another nvidia new name scheme? -
-
As for the GPU, we'll see soon enough as some members on NBR have already purchased one. -
wish they would refresh the A1 with the new GPU.
-
It seems I will be sticking with Asus for my next laptop.
-
The Gateway P-7811FX produced for Best Buy is being discontinued and is now moved to "OUTLET" for the low price of $1359. That is roughly only $100 more than the new ASUS G50VT-x1 that has just recently appeared on the Best Buy website for $1250. (funny enough the same day the FX hit the outlet)
They seem similiar in processing with the FX having a 9800GTS and the VT having a 9800GS (which is still being debated as to what it actually is and how it compares to the GTS). One difference being DDR3 vs DDR2.
There are notable other differences like physical size/wieght, screen res, HD size, sound, etc., with one or the other claiming victor depending on what is being compared. -
will that pc with the vid card be sold to resellers also?
-
Yes, I'm pretty certain that resellers will have it (my best guess is by early Nov. at the latest). When they do, it will have the same GPU, but better CPU, HDD and screen. There's also a possibility that the gaming mouse will be changed to a Razer Copperhead as well.

I dont think it was a typo, I saw one of these at BB yesterday and the sticker on the laptop also said 9800m gs, this is the one with the nvidia symbol on it.
-
Isn't the screen res still pretty weak (1366x768) for a gaming laptop. Would have thought this would have been one of the improvements paired with a stronger video card.
-
The resolution is lower to keep the price low. That's the strategy for the Best Buy-specific ASUS models. The "real" G50Vt will have a higher resolution, almost certainly.

you saw it at the store? wow that thing came out quick. Also if you are like me and play Video games Via HDMI this isnt even that big of a deal.
-
WtheF nVidia's god **** naming thing is confusing the hell out of me. i hope it is the same as the GTS
-
Saw one? I bought one! The best buy woman didnt even know they had it, I had to point it out and she still didnt believe me!
It's a great laptop thus far, GPU's been great, (Had a Gateway P-6381FX prior) and the size is nice for it to be a bit smaller.
Edit: I already did some bench marks without the Overclocking of the processor on in the original Asus G50v thread, you can see them on there! -
Saw one? I bought one!
So what is the verdict on the video card, is it a 9800gs or gts or gt? -
-
so is the online reseller version of the g50vt going to be g50v but with the 9800 gpu
-
I'm more curious to the non Best Buy version price, curious. Personally I do not like the design on it, I wish gaming laptop didn't have to mean flashy. -
-
-
According to a gpu-z screen I saw posted by Rushmeat, the 9800M GS is a downclocked 9800M GTS (it has the same number of shader processors [64], the same chip [G94 M] and the same memory bus [256-bit] but different clock speeds). It is probably downclocked for heat reasons, so essentially, if one was to overclock it, it would be the same as the 9800M GTS.

I'm waiting for it to hit Gentech's site....
-
Im so glad im on this site. I was about to buy the g50 tonight. But looks like im going to wait a bit more to get it. I hope we get more information on this new upgrade and when we can preorder it. Gentech here I come.
-
I talked to Ken at Gentech and he told me that they'll be available in November and that he'll have detailed specs of the systems they will be offering on Monday. He said he needs to get ahold of ASUS regarding pre-ordering. He also said that they'll be sporting 7200RPM drives unlike the Best Buy model (I'm not sure if the Best Buy model has 7200RPM or 5400RPM drives, they list it as both).

I like how it looks, and the GPU upgrade is welcome.
But the screen resolution kills it for me and the cpu speed hurts too. -
sweet
add me to the list of pre order. I just hope it ships before turkey day. I need this laptop for a trip -
I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger on the G50V yet... I definitely want the GPU upgrade, but I also want the higher screen resolution and faster processor of the A1 version. In fact if they'd put a 1920x1080p screen on there I'd be even happier. I'll wait for Gentech or Xotic to have the Vt model with the new GPU and see how those look.
I'm still undecided about the aesthetic changes... I kinda liked the orange-black trim on the A1, it looked kinda Ferrari-ish. The top of the Vt looks pretty cool though. If I'm gonna spend this much on another laptop, it might as well be flashy, and either one of these look awesome
Actually, does anyone have one of these with the new GPU yet? I'd like to know if the battery life is significantly worse.. -

Since it goes GS --> GT --> GTS --> GTX
a 9700GT --> 9800GS may not be that big of an upgrade in the first place.
Looks like you lose a HDD too, if your comparing it to a A1 -
from what I gather from Notebookcheck, atm in benchmarks not 3D Mark it is GS (underclocked GTS) - GTS - GT - GTX
even though the GTS should be better, its slightly worse in some games. Gotta love nVidia's naming strategy.

**** it i just bought a G50V yesterday
-
Woohoo finally a 9800 gpu.
The only thing that is stopping me from buying this monster is the weight. If I took out one hard drive, would it weigh significantly less? -
-
Looking over the description from Best Buy again, it seems like its only got one 320gb 7200rpm hard drive.
-
Will this be in direct competition to the A1 model? Or will this be the top of the line gaming laptop? It would be interesting to see how this will be priced in relation to the G50V-A1 model. Based on the model number it would seem that this will be higher G50Vt > G50Vm.

JUST ORDERED THE G50VT-X1!!!! WILL pick up from bestbuy afterwork, I'm a little apprehensive about resolution, one would want higher one but thinking about asus is smart. 9800GS car has 64 stream processor, at 1366 x 768 resolution, it can handle any game at pretty much max out resolution and get high rating for their laptop and happy consumer, nice move. Will post my review after setting it up.
-
man i cant wait to order this computer. I hope we can still get it in the same color as the current g50 and still have the 2 hard drives. I also heard that the m50 is getting a newer vid card. Maybe asus was asked to switch them all
-
Honestly, what's the point of getting a 1920x1200 screen? There's no Blu-Ray drive. The G50VT-X1 is able to play all games at native resolution at medium-high, and that's with a laptop. At $1,250, it's like a steal.
-
without the 9800...I was looking at Sagers...now I'm looking back to Asus again.
-
*Gasp*
Nothing Else is This Good. I Cant Wait, This will be my new Laptop. Without A doubt.
Do you think Newegg or others will sell this one?
And would it be the same as a G50 exept for more awesome Graphics?
Or is it more different? -

IMO i dont see why you need anything more then 1600 x 1200 in a notebook i mean thats what i use on my gateway and i refuse to go bigger.
