Hey, i was wondering what i can do with my ASUS G50VT-X5, in terms of performance? but also more importantly battery life, i mean the whole idea of having a note-book is so thats its mobile right? lol. So i was wondering is there CPU upgrades i can do that can boost performance without impacting battery life? I understand overclocking for gaming mode(which i play alot of games btw! :D ) using SETFSB/ Asus's nice little DirectConsole2.0, but for mobile use it isn't too logical and if i wanna play a games on the go

this Laptop is my primary computer, as i have joined the US Army(Ship out Jan 19 2010) I figure i tinker with it now and take it with me when i get deployed(not to boot-camp of course :p though that be nice haha)

Few things i was thinking about upgrading are the CPU and the HDD, on the note of HDD's Would it be wise to get an SSD? since i've heard there fast and have very low wattage, my only problem is Storage all the 256GB are $750!! which cost more then this Refurb laptop i bought off Ebay. Another idea would be to Add a smaller SSD(40/80GB) to the original HDD and just use the SSD as my main drive, the 320GB HDD as storage but how much would that impact Bat. Life?

Finally any tricks, tips, hints on ways to improve Bat. life?

    Any help is appreciated!

I do have a 64GB SSD and a 320 GB HDD in my G51. Makes it very fast under Windows 7. Don't see any major difference in battery life, maybe a few minutes, but the time I do get is more productive since load times are cut to almost nothing.

I added a second HD. Very easy to do. What I want most is the P9700 2.8 C2D CPU to replace my 2.13 but they want $388 for a true OEM (not ES Engineering sample) part on eBay.

I already get 5.3 experience under Windows 7 and all my games play great so I'm not too concerned with upgrading soon. I did buy a Blu-ray drive and that seems to work well.

    Cheers,

upgrading to more powerful stuff and more parts usually means more battery consumption. In terms of battery life, the G50VT is already very good for a gaming laptop. Usually 2 hours is the norm but since you have an extended battery, you can probably squeeze out 3 hours.

Yeah thats true, but seeing as im only going to be using 10w more then my current CPU that and get a 700mhz boost in CPU speed is worth it. and the HDD should be similar power usage if not a little less.

On the note of batteries where can i buy more, or a bigger one for the G50?
