The G51 series laptops uses a 12.7mm SATA optical drive. Any bluray drives with this interface will work, however, you'll most likely have to replace the faceplate from your current drive to the bluray.

Thanks for the replies so far.

EIement, this forum doesn't allow me to send any PM's that I could find. Maybe that feature not enabled yet cuz I'm a new member.

David, are you sure it's SATA and not IDE? I haven't pulled it out yet but I got this from the System Info page:

    Drive E:
    Description CD-ROM Drive
    Media Loaded No
    Media Type UNKNOWN
    Name HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N
    Manufacturer (Standard CD-ROM drives)
    Status OK
    Transfer Rate -1.00 kbytes/sec
    SCSI Target ID 1
    PNP Device ID IDE\CDROMHL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GSA-T50N________________RR07____\4&2FB05A86&0&0.1.0
    Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys (6.0.6001.18000, 78.00 KB (79,872 bytes), 1/20/2008 9:46 PM)

Also who makes a good reliable drive that has drivers that work?

just installed a "HL CT10N SATA Blu-ray drive" in my g51. works like a charm, win7 recognized it and installed drivers. using it with Corel WinDVD excellent picture.

Got the drive from ebay for 94USD (64.99 drive + 29.99 shipping), and WinDVD has a 30 day trial. the drive/faceplate/bracket transfer was straight forward and theres only 2 screws.
i can show you pics if needed send me a pm.

Will buy 1 if it's a writer :) got no use to read only.
Can just download in 1080p quality too if I want to watch movies.
