Hi, I recently read a post where a person installed a small fan inside the notebook, and I thought that it could be a potentially good idea for lowering the temps in the G51, however before that I have some questions.
I've reached high temps while playing games which is not surpsring for the G51's and I'm considering methods/ mods which I can do to lower the temps of the GPU. I've done things like (undervolting etc).

So the plan is to install a small 30x30mm fan inside the case just above the GPU core. I want to drill a number of small holes in the chassis, so the fan will have a place to intake the air.
I want to power the fan using the power from the main notebooks fan. (using these cables) without losing voltage in each.

    Questions

    1. Would it be possbile to connect 2 fans to one 4-pin power (using the cables shown above)

    2. Would the second fans speed chnage with the speed of the main fan?

    3. Do you think there is a danger of melting cables, when they would be hanging above the gpu?

I've heard this is was working for some people, but would it be worth doing it for the G51?

yea we can all make one thread and post reviews to our own cooling solutions when we finish.

Are the temps really that bad on the G51 series? Is a cooler absolutely neccessary?

if you plan to do any overclocking/heaving gaming I'd say so. there are recorded temps of over 102C, and many people hit 90C+ when gaming.

Try looking into some pastes. MX-3 brought me down at least 3C right off the bat.

Unfortunately I did not have much success with MX2 (and yes, I've been applying pastes for 5 years) and I've heard there is only 1- degrees between the two.

Hey guys, Hmm went to bestbuy today with 4 of my friends, 4 of them bought the G51vx RX05 best buy model, Hmm, As i can see here everywun is reporting they have high temps on G51's. how come on my buddies all 4 of them, we tested it out, played crysis and crysis warhead for about 2 hours straight. max temps using hwmonitor was 80*C never went above that. These g51's just all about good lucks on these high temps problems or what?

So I played some crysis with my cousin online and we both monitored temps. Same clock speeds. He has an np8662, same gpu obviously and a 2.66ghz cpu. My cpu was running 3.2ghz.

    Shock time O_O
His gpu max temp after an hour of playing was..wait for it...77C..

My G51 hit 89C max temp...

His gpu idles at 40C while mine idles at roughly 48C. He is on a Zalman nc-2000 cooler. While I ave both my bottom panel mod and the rush air mod on the cooler. We both have AS5 applied to cpu and gpu....

Confused o_O The magical world of laptop differentials.

That shouldn't be happening at all. No-one with a G51 has ever had temperatures that low which makes me suspect that they've been looking at the current temperature and not the maximum.

    1. Yes, I PMd you that answer, I'll draw you a schematic for that later, it's very simple.

    2. No, it will not.

    3. That depends on the cable, read cable specs. Most cases, silicon cables are used for such purposes (as in audio amplifiers).

Allright thx, Ill be waiting for that then.

If everything will go well, Ill do that no prob.

Yes, I will get the IC Diamond 7, later on when I will buy a new CPU

I have the NC2000 atm, but I was thinking of building a custom one as well, however the GPU Mod is my priority now. I might go for a small Copper Mod as well.

Interested how it goes, I might try something like this myself if I can figure out a way to rip out the optical drive and funnel air from there to the gpu

I know how to remove it, just wondering about the best way to get airflow to the rest of the case. Going to have to get a dremel, I think.
