Couple of questions:
1. Can a BD drive be upgraded later? Where can that be ordered from?
2. Expected batt life if not gaming?
3. If you look at this laptop at say, Amazon.com, it shows a max memory of 4GB, but www.xoticpc.com site show 8?? Typo?
4. Anyone know why the laptop is not even listed on Asus's website yet?

1. can be ordered from estore.asus.com or ebay if you can find what model of drive they use.
2. in battery saver mode w/ screen brightness @70% I get about 2 hours and 5 minutes of batt. life.
3.its not a typo, asus just apparently reports to resellers other than botiques like xotic/gentechPC that only 4GB max is possible. I guess to prevent people from opening it?
4. its not listed because its not officially out until the release of windows 7. -
Thank you for the quick response.
Do you have a 'non-boutique' one? How is the heat if noraml using for school video\ photo editing? Can it stay on pretty much constantly?
Although limited gaming in is my future (think COD MW2), currently working on next degree and wanted a powerful desktop replacement. Clearly the i7 is the way to go.... but....
Just looking for opinions... I have a Dell XPS 16 (they have delayed shipping twince, now to th 30th on Oct) on order with 1333 Mem and BD and the 820, but this looks like better deal with the better warrenty and price, granted slower proc, mem, and no BlueRay. -
Yeah, this laptop has great specs. As for the 4gbs, I'm pretty sure you can go higher, xoticpc know when there is a limitation and show it when customizing. If you need more information, email Justin, or go to the live chat. He will answer all of your questions.
Oh and by the way, it IS on asus's site in the news section, just not yet on the product page : link -
I have an X1A, which only has a dual core. but judging from teh new cooling design of the G51j, it should be relatively cool while working on those things. The 1333 memory is a waste, we can't even saturate the bandwidth of 800mhz memory let alone 1333mhz memory. the i7 820 is also not really worth the 5-7% increase in speed.

no, there is a new heatsink for the CPU in the G51j
