    Hey there all. I have a G50vt-x1

    Intel Centrino 2 Duo 2.26ghz
    4gb RAM
    Nvidia 9800m gs 512mb
    Windows Vista 64

And Im having a CPU prob. For some reason my CPU has been spiking. Never happened before but now its getting bad. Idle it gets from 0-2 to 40-50! And when playing a game like Left 4 Dead or Aion CPU will be at 40-70 and spike to 80-100!!!

Any ideas. I tried using AVG Full version (on Gaming mode) and it doesn't seem to be a virus problem... i think.

Someone said it could be my video card getting to hot. I check while it was spiking on Left 4 Dead at 100cpu and it was at 83c. But usually at 70c.

Games get unplayable at 100cpu... T_T

    Thanks!

first of all i think u mean g50vt-x1, I could be wrong but im gonna assume its that. Next, did u at any point in time open up the laptop? Does this happen for only left4dead or all games as well? what was the last thing u did before this happened?

Your CPU is spiking because you have some programs running in the background. Try to close unnecessary programs. In regards to heat, try and cleaning out your vent and fan. Use compressed air while holding the fan and clean it out. That should help a bit. You can also look into undervolting to reduce temps.

Wow sorry... i do mean the g50vt.... And it happens to all games I play (The only games I have played recently are Left 4 Dead and AION.) But it also spikes just staying on the desktop. I looked threw my programs and see nothing out of the ordinary running in the background and disabled all programs that I was not using.

Unfortunately I dont member the last thing I did before this happened. I guess surfing the web. Thats why I thought it was a virus or something, But I used different programs and found nothing. ts been like this for about a month now.

I have tried compressed air and a little dust came out but no difference on performance. I ordered a fan for my laptop, but seeing how it does this spiking idle, I dont know if it will help...

Oh and I have never opened my laptop

hmm that kinda happened to me with my laptop, but u see the reason why it happened to me was because I took off the copper plate off my cpu which cause the thermal paste to become loose. Hence the heat couldnt transfer good to the copper which caused it to spike up to 100 or so then give me BSOD sometimes. Your problem seems to be a bit different though. Try going to a local repair shop n let them have a look at it. It could be a hardware prob

it sounds to me like he's talking about CPU load, not CPU heat. (he says 0-2 and then 40-50, he also says games are unplayable at 100...leads me to believe something is eating CPU cycles)
