I will be buying a powerful netbook in the near future and am seriously considering Asus 1201n or something they may surprise us with at the CES.

I live in Canada but do not want to buy a Canadian computer because we are forced to live with these multilingual keyboard and horrid bilingual setup when u first turn the system on.

Dell combats this by refusing warranty service to a Cdn who purchased a US system or vice versa as well as many other companies.

Asus is a bit different however as they advertise free 1Yr Accidental and then 2 yr global warranty.

The trick is that you have to register the system to get the accidental warranty.

So.....unlike all the other brands of laptops/netbooks, can I buy a US Asus system and register it with a Canadian address and retain my full warranty????

To register a US bought Asus do I have to register on the US site with a US address?

Ideas or experience???? Thanks in advance.

im currently stationed overseas and Asus let me use my overseas address to register for the accidental damage protection... I would say you are good to go in canada since i am halfway around the world on Guam

Hi Les, nice to see you on the Asus forum :)

The accidental damage warranty and 2 year global hardware warranty is valid for both US and Canada (it doesn't matter if you provide a US address or a Canadian one). You automatically get the 2 year warranty when you register your laptop online, and for the 1 year accidental, you'll have to mail in a form to Asus to activate it.

AFAIK, none of the Asus netbook carries the accidental warranty and will only have a 1 year standard hardware warranty. The accidental protection is only for notebooks.

I have a G72 replacing a G71 that suffered a dead display and dead graphics card... It should be here tomorrow or the next day. The customer service guy in Tremont, Ca says I just have to email him....

Trying to work out some kind of a deal to get a deal on a netbook through them with no luck so far because of the warranty frustration and mega hours of phone calls and emails....

The prob we have in Canada is lack of availability with many powerful netbooks... Waiting to see what CES comesup with as well....

Just sold of an XPS 1340 to move to a netbook....ssd is going to be a challenge I am sure to ensure it will work. They were testing a 512gb in a UL series...hmmmm

And thanks...nice to hear from you David

I believe it depends on the ebay seller. For example, I know gentech, btotech and excaliberpc also sells on ebay, so from those sellers, warranty won't be an issue. If it's from a random individual seller, I'd be skeptical.

the warranty is transferrable, so if you buy it used (not refurbished), but used version of the ones with a global 360 warranty, it is transferrable with a simple call to asus. (I bought mine used and the warranty was transferred without a hitch)
