    Hello everyone!

I bought my K50 in August last year. It has been a great little machine for that price. In December, after the laptop had run for over 24 hours, I started hearing how the HDD made much louder noises while "loading" or whatever it does when it should make some sounds than usual. I quickly backed up all my important data and prepared for the worst. I then turned my laptop off. A few hours later, after I booted it up again, the louder noises were gone and everything still worked fine. Actually it still is working just fine. I have heard that loud noise occasionally after the first time, and every time I turn my computer off and start it again some time later, the sounds are gone.

I would like to know, what the hell all that means :) Usually when the HDD clicks, it's time to say goodbye to it, but mine still works. And I'm quite sure it is the HDD not some fan.

So, anyone here ever experienced something like this?

    Welcome to the forum!

Try running SMART on the drive and see if any errors show up indicating impending drive failure. You're probably OK, but just to be sure.

I used an application HD Tune to check for some errors. Didn't seem to find any, anyway here is a screenshot of the health status http://i.imgur.com/z0RBY.jpg .

But still, why does it make this clicking sound which is usually associated with a dying HDD? Strange

Vendors and Microsoft are using more aggressive power management, which tends to park the drive heads. Also, W7 runs defrag and cache optimization more often in the background, and many users mistake the HDD clicks associated with the head movement during these as death clicks.
