Hey guys. 1st post here! However that doesn't mean I made an account just to ask questions and not contribute :p
Anyways, I just purchased the K53TA-BBR6 which is the model everybody seems to be going crazy over and I must say I am very impressed. Everything besides the screen seems almost perfect about it.

I remember reading somewhere about the screen inside being able to be replaced by the same model used in the G53, can somebody give me a little more information on that and if they know of the cheapest reliable source of where to get it? I know pushing the computer to run at 1920x1080 isn't a smart idea when I'm looking for the best performance and battery life I can get out of this thing, however I just can't stand looking at the same horrendous panel that was used in a cheap Dell that I actually gave away a few years back. Not only that but before getting the laptop I was always staring at a 2560x1440 IPS and all its glory so as you can guess it almost hurts my eyes looking at the laptop. Maybe there's something like a 1600x900 compatible screen somewhere out there, who knows. I just need to replace what I currently have.

Also, the newer K53's which are also slightly more expensive are now coming with a higher quality chilclet keyboard. I'd choose a chiclet keyboard over a regular cheap laptop one any day. Does anybody know more about this and if there's things like comparability issues or what-not? They sell on ebay for around $25.

If any of you want to know, besides these upgrades that I have planned I also plan on slapping in another 4GB Samsung stick of RAM (Its 30nm tech which makes it eat much lower voltage compared to other manufacturers), replacing the optical drive with a Momentus XT, and last but not least drill a hole at the bottom of the laptop so that the intake fan can actually take in some fresh air. I'll figure out a way to externally mount a fan dust filter so it's all good when it comes to dust build-up. I'm planning on making this the ultimate K53TA-BBR6 laptop!

someone here (baii) killed their lcd screen by upgrading to 1080p or something.

lvds cable most likely won't support lcd upgrade

    but damn. 1080p screen only $80 !!!! -

here's another thread discussing lcd upgrade-

chiclet kb should work. Someone here got it installed after RMA.
you'll likely need double sided tape to prevent keyboard flex

    too bad for baii.

1080p...that's sweet! Digital pics etc are going to look like a dream. But games may need to be played at lower near 720p resolutions or maybe 1600x900 at the highest to maintain good framerate.

hey guys im back. sorry for no lack of caps, my keyboards replacement is on the way. anyways, im back on the road of finding myself a replacement lcd panel as my current one is borked and now is the perfect time to replace it as ill just have to pay the difference for the upgrade.
i know that somebody here has successfully upgraded their screen to a 1080p g53 panel, all it took was money and an lvds cable that was dual channel, not single. well, that route is too pricey for me and i game a lot on my laptop so performance will be unacceptable.
i feel that 1600x900 is the sweet spot. i used that resolution on my friends laptop and it looked as sharp as my ips that, funny enough, is also broken. the ips however, was my accident and therefore im personally saving up to buy again.

i already put a samsung 830 128gb ssd into my laptop and will be throwing in another stick of ram very soon however without a quality screen the ssd will be better off in my 1500 dollar gaming rig.

to anybody else that is as interested as to what else im doing with my k53ta as i am with what people are doing to theirs, im also putting the original 500gb hdd into the dvd drive bay, upgrading the keyboard to a chicklet one, and have cut open the vents to exhaust more air which i regret doing but at least its a very clean job sp it doesnt bother me as much
