I'm looking into a new laptop specifically for video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.

    My requirements are:

Price range: Around $1000 (although if needed, can spend a little more)
    Primary Application: Premiere Pro CS4
Secondary Applications: Internet, Word Processing, Photoshop
Warranty: 2 Years Min., 3 Years preferable (will probably pay the extra $100 for 3 years, got burned on my last laptop dying after 2.5 years)
Brand: Partial to ASUS b/c warranty and value for money, will consider others
Battery: Would like 2+ hours when just using internet/word, I know I won't get much longer with the specs. I need.
    Screen Size: 15" - 16"
OS: Windows 7 64-bit, would like to get use of all 4Gb of that memory, and most of the ones with Vista use 32-bit. Also don't want to buy something now that's already obsolete.

    Right now I'm strongly considering:

Model: Asus K61IC-A1/2 (still deciding on blu-ray for $50 extra)
    Display: 16" HD Glossy (1366x768)
    CPU: Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz
    RAM: 4096 MB DDR2 800MHz
    HDD: 320GB 7200RPM
    VIDEO: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 220M GDDR2, with 1GB VRAM
    CD: Blu-Ray Reader (A2) + Super Multi DVD±R/RW / CDRW (A1)
    Wireless: Built In WIFI
    Price: $919 (AI) / $969 (A2) + $100 if I decide on the 3 year warranty.

Since this one just came out, I haven't been able to find any reviews. Does anyone here know of any good ones?

Hard drive space isn't a concern, have an external 2Tb LaCie BDE. A FW port would be nice, but haven't seen them on many of Asus's new laptops, esp. not FW 800 on any PC laptops so I'd probably just get a FW800 express card which shouldn't be a big deal.

Do you guys think this model is fast enough for what I need or am I being pennywise and poundfoolish by not going with more?

If you think a faster/another laptop is necessary, what would you recommend?

Check out the p7805u in the marketplace. you save 200-250 and get better specs. blu-ray is :-( on laptops

Could be worthy to take a look. You need good amounts of ram and hdd space for video editing.

    Hard drive space isn't a concern - I have a 2Tb External RAID disk.

My main concern on the ASUS, is the processor fast enough. The Gateway in the marketplace just has an even slower processor, and the 17" screen size and general laptop is bigger and bulkier than I'm looking for.
