I am seriously considering buying this notebook, since it has a fine 18.4" display, modern Intel CPU + Nvidia GPU, and, most notably, features 1 desktop-size 3.5" HDD slot, which provides enormous disk space inside. And price matters, yes - less than 1000$ for such a machine is great deal, as far as I believe.

Thus, I am asking owners of this notebook to share their experience. Are there any contras? Is CPU socketed or soldered on MB, i.e. upgradeable or not? What are the temperatures of CPU, GPU and HDDs under heavy load? Can you make a Hackintosh of it? Please reply.

I can tell you that the CPU is socketed but is last generation. I imagine temps will be fair as Asus not only tends to have a good design in their thermal transfer arrangement, but this looks like a big chassis, which also helps. I don't have any reports though on this to give you something more unambiguous answer though.

As for Hackintosh, I have no clue. That may just be something you would have to experiment with.
