I have couple of months notebook ASUS L5GM and it's very nice. But there is only DVD-CDRW so I would like to upgrade it.

I contacted by e-mail nearest authorized service center and they sent me price for possible DVD-RW drive for ASUS L5 Series notebooks

    TOSHIBA SD-R6112 (DVD-R 2X, DVD-RW 1X) L5C Series
    PIONEER DVR-K13AS (DVD±R 4X, DVD±RW 2X) L5GM/GA/GX Series

Price for PIONEER DVR-K13AS from ASUS authorized service is 399 USD.

In normal shop price for PIONEER DVR-K14 (DVD±R 8X, DVD±RW 4X, DVD+DL 2.4X) is 187 USD but this drive is probably incompatible with ASUS LGM notebook. (Because it no fit in notebook it is not for interface or something.)

What it's interesting is more than 2 times higher price for drive (PIONEER DVR-K13AS) which is worse like cheaper one (PIONEER DVR-K14) and this all $ for compatibility.

If somebody has better or different information about prices of ASUS L5 optical drives please reply to this topic.

I was going to get the same drive to replace the toshi one in my M6Ne, it would fit, as long as you keep the housing tray that came with the the asus burner. The only problem is that it wouldn't look v.nice as the external trimming would not match. I decided that it would be cheaper and more reliable to buy a standard desktop drive and an external case. I'm glad I did...got a pioneer DVR 108 + thermaltake case for AUD$190....the internal was AUD$240, so it was quite a saving!
