I thought I'd seen it all, then Asus drops THIS mega bomb shell!!!
-
One thing that is missing, for that size and weight, it doesn't have an optical drive
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztmGLkI3fAs -
DVD RW or Blu Ray ... third paragraph.
-
That's probably external, because if you look at the youtube video that i just linked above, there is no internal drive
-
Same 460m .. waste of money .. sorry to ask but how old is that now ?
-
-
lol it's on the g53 platform. It has a drive.
Also, did they put an extra 1.5gb of ram on the card for no reason? -
Sad that they put a 460m in that machine. 16GB of RAM and 3GB of VRAM is a complete waste unless you plan on running a very high resolution external monitor and/or doing 3D design work.
Does look very nice, though! -
Whoa looks very sweet.
But 16gb of ram? and 3gb of VRAM? -
Omg das is sexy... 0.0
-
Available in market now? How about the price?
-
In the second picture of the OP's post you can see a BluRay drive. This laptop looks sweet and a 3GB 460m is awesome.
-
::scratches head::
-
what's the point?
-
I am still trying to sell my kidney so I can get one of these. I'd ask for the MXM to be switched out to something LIKE the 5870 or maybe the 1.5GB 480 GTX. Yeah that'd work.
-
Any clue about the price?
-
At CES 2010, the G73Jh booted at least.
Edit at Computex 2010, the VX6 was booting, but nothing on the VX7 -
Anyone else excited to see what 3D Mark will be on this? Prime 95 etc?

Looks like this will finally be launching?
ASUS refreshes Lamborghini VX7 with Sandy Bridge, mercifully offers a black option -- Engadget -
Personally, the orange color is a bit too extravagant for my taste, but I can definitely see myself rocking with the black VX7. -

Talked with Ken from Gentech PC. Price is $2269USD.

I dunno what's wrong with me, I really like the orange.
Too bad it's so far out of my price range, it's got a really nice CPU and 16GB RAM is insane - more than my desktop has (8GB)! -
-
I couldn't justify getting this over a g53. I just don't see the $800 in the price, ram and useless GPU "upgrade".

Weird, I thought the VX7 should have a 3 year warranty. It's listed as 2 years though.
-
ilikeicehockey Notebook Evangelist
well it may be a 2 due to the price cut. Previous lambo laptops went for $3000 and they weren't even top of the line back then. By removing some of the frills (leather mousepad, laptop case, etc.) and only keeping a mouse and backpack and cutting the warranty down they can make the product much more accessible for their consumers.
Also can someone clarify why the 3Gb of Video card memory would be basically useless? -

Doesn't anyone else see this for what it is: Asus trying to rip off their customers?
I mean, sticking the 460m back in there, but with 3GB VRAM is like saying a 12 mp Sanyo point and shoot is better than a 10 megapixel Canon dSLR.
It's just catering to people who think "Oooh bigger numbers must be better" and is essentially ripping them off.
3 GB VRAM on a 460m makes 0 sense and will do 0 for you in real world use. And 16GB RAM? Lol wut?
IDK, this isn't exciting or interesting, in reality it's a little bit sad that Asus would "pull that one" which is basically "ripping off customers."
Oh and, the case rework is FUGLY as hell.
EDIT: Now if this came with a 470m, at the very least, it'd be a whole different ball game. Asus must not be too comfortable with their "advanced cooling system" because it makes no sense they keep kicking around the same mediocre and-now-outdated card. -

3GB of Vram when the 460M will struggle at best to make use of 1.5? sounds like another marketing 445m scheme to me.
16gb ram is just silly as well I do 3D/CAD work and rarely touch near to my max 8 at the moment.
Not to mention the brake lights???
If im driving my laptop then something seriously bad is about to happen if I have a need to turn on the brake lights -
In my opinion, ASUS was just trying to max out every possible slots available to them to make the laptop seems that it is better than the rest.
If you don't like it, don't buy it. Nobody is forcing you to buy it. But if there is a demand for such a laptop, don't blame ASUS for supplying the product to meet that demand.
EDIT:
I forgot to mention, if you pay a little more attention studying their lineup than whining about a product that wasn't designed for you, you'd realize that the Lamborghini line has a much longer development time than the rest of the lineups. The reason is simple: they don't need to constant refresh a boutique lineup that has low sale and high margin. -
16GB is actually very useful if you run VMs. This is exactly why I have 16GB on my desktop and I'm sure other VM users won't think it's silly at all.
-
Has anyone preordered one of these yet, or actually got their hands on it?
-
The orange one from Xoticpc looks damn sexy. I got the funds to grab it but man that's a lot of cash but buying it is like buying a very nice car or a rolex watch lol. I'll probably just end up displaying it and preserving for collection and future value lol.

I was thinking the same thing. There's no way 3gigs of GDDR5 is going to get utilized, if ever, given a crippling 192bit bus. And the 16 gb of ram? Im sorry but a low end 2630qm is not going to utilize that amount any time soon. An utter waste if these are the final specs..
-
ive read a couple places that the new sandy bridge quads should be able to tap into 16 gigs of ram quite nicely. i don't know for sure but it seems a lot of new features and instructions set were added to the sandy bridge cpus. the article did mention like the poster above that vm's and heavy graphics editing should be able to utilize it. but they might've been talking about 2720qm and 2830qm also.

You can use 16GB of RAM on any 64 bit machine, it's just a question of what you're doing with it... in typical use it's probably overkill but since it's a Lambo I don't see any reason against maxing out the RAM from the factory.
-
but up until now the cpu's haven't been able to take full advantage of it.
