I'm interested in purchasing an ASUS M50Sv-B1 laptop. The video card difference between the Sa and Sv isn't important to me ... the Sv is available from a local store, though they'd have to ship one in from another store in a bigger city

I've been seeing different images of what the keyboard layout looks like, and I'm wondering if anyone knows whether or not it has changed somewhere along the way, or if two kinds are available.

Please note the area around and including the enter key

    Keyboard Layout 1:

    Keyboard Layout 2:

    I like the keyboard layout 2 ...
In fact, I would rather purchase a Sony FZ than have an ASUS M50 with the goofy shaped enter key and extra buttons in the way even though I prefer it's specs.

If any of you could let me know what's going on here, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

... um, they are different. The enter key on the top takes up two rows and is narrower... plus there is an extra key between the apostrophe and the enter key.

I didn't use that picture because it's too big and looks awkward with my post

I'm from Canada... do you think we'd have the same as the US Models?

It wouldn't surprise me if the European model was available here for French users. :(

I guess I should contact the store it'll be shipped from and ask them.

I'm not 100% sure if they are US models in Canada. You'll probably have to ask your local reseller about that. However, you can always purchase it from a US reseller like gentechpc and have them ship it to Canada :)

I'm afraid all the pictures from gentechpc show the "Euro" version of the keyboard however. Unless they're just showing pictures that were easy to obtain as well ... I guess I'll just have to contact anyone I might purchase it from and see which they have.

Thanks for the help though :)

Yes, Asus uses the European model as the catalog pictures for the M50Sv. Rest assured, I purchased mine from gentechpc and it's the US model. But do check with your local reseller first, since it'll probably be much easier for you to purchase that way.

god, i don't think i can escape from buying a 12"/13" notebook... but a built-in numpad would be so goddamn useful! (the ubiquitous virtual numpad doesnt work for me as letters are staggered at an angle and numpad is square :p)

I always bought notebooks from Holland and the Enter key was always single-row and wide :)

Hi E.B.E., since you live in Holland, do you know where I can find m50 models different then the Asus M50SA-AK014G. This is the only m50 model i can find and i'm looking for one without the blu-ray (so it's less expensive).

    Thanx

Ok thanx, but as you can see they are all out of stock except for the M50SA-AK014G... And when you call these companies they say that the m50sv-as100c cannot be delivered anymore.

But thanx anyway, i will look for a different solution.

Sorry I did it very fast didn't look at the availability column :)

When an ASUS notebook goes out of stock like that, it means that that version is EOL in Holland, and it's being replaced by a newer equivalent. As to how "equivalent" that new machine is, it remains to be seen.

Happened to me once, as well.

Although now it can mean also that that version was very popular. It figures, it was 400 EUR cheaper than the one that's still available. In that case maybe it'll show up back in stock in a few weeks.
